Aqva Pour Homme.
An underrated summer fragrance.
Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme was released in 2005. It is based on citruses, aquatics, and subtle woods. It lasts seven hours on the skin with average projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Smell Like?
A hefty dose of orange leads the opening. There is petitgrain present in the scent profile, which tends to have a fresh and sour/tart aroma. However, the opening is so orange-dominant that it elects for a heavier emphasis on sweetness.
In the background are salty aquatic notes, present but not overwhelming. They become dominant as the top notes lose strength as the wear continues. At this point, the fragrance has an oceanic note. This is important to know as we head into the heart.
Seaweed adds to the heart of the fragrance, taking the Aqva Pour Homme in a more marine direction. This may be a confusing description. But the point is that after the first few hours, the scent is no longer bright and clean like clear blue ocean water. Instead, it’s a deeper and darker aquatic scent with aromatic touches. Yet, never dirty or off-putting.
Powdery amber and wood notes add soon after the seaweed note. The dry down will not be the most prominent and will solely act as a solid base for the dominant aquatic notes.
The best part of the fragrance is the first few hours.

Performance
The performance is average. It lasts seven hours on the skin with light but consistent projection. It’s your typical summery, aquatic fragrance. It has a one to two feet ambiance around you for hours. Nothing wrong with that; you just won’t shout for attention when you’re inside.
Aqva Pour Homme is exclusively spring and summer wear. Even in the cool spring temperatures, it is too weak nor fits the vibe. The warmer your climate is all year round, the more versatile this becomes. You’ll get two to three months of wear out of this in a four-season climate.
The occasions are as limited as the seasons. Sure, you can wear any fragrance any time you want. But Aqva Pour Homme is solely for casual situations and other close-quarter settings because it has light projection that won’t overwhelm anyone.
The mass appeal and likability are excellent. There is nothing about this scent that is decisive. It won’t be a big attention magnet, but everyone around who can smell it will enjoy the aroma.
Final Words
This is the original of all the flankers, yet this is still one of the best. The most similar fragrance is Aqva Pour Homme Toniq. It has the same DNA but with a bit of a twist.
So, the final burning question is, is Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme worth it? It costs $90 for a 100mL bottle and lacks versatility with only average performance. Yet, it does have a unique aroma for an aquatic-based fragrance. Still, it doesn’t warrant a blind buy but is certainly sample or decant-worthy.
I enjoy the fragrance, but it is nothing special that shouts a big green flag. If this was in the $40 – $50 range for a 100mL bottle, then definitely. But at this price point, a few other fragrances are better for less. Examples would be Missoni Wave or Armaf Club de Nuit Sillage.
If you try Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
