Encre Noire.
An affordable masculine fragrance.
Lalique Encre Noire was released in 2006. It is based on earthy woods and aromatics. It lasts six hours on the skin with above-average projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Lalique Encre Noire Smell Like?
Is the opening of this misleading? Yes. It is strong right off the bat; there is a very bright and piney cypress note with an intense spice. This is not a fragrance you’ll ever want to overspray.
At first, you’ll be like, “Oh, this is going to be a bright and piney fragrance.” That couldn’t be further from the truth.
The bright cypress and vetiver quickly get hit with a dark nature-based duo of woods and mosses. When this duo presents itself, they are the significant focus for the rest of the wear.
From this point on, woods and mosses only get stronger. Halfway through the wear, Encre Noire gains a damp-like quality. It is like the smell of walking through a freshly rained forest.
Lalique Encre Noire notes:
- Cypress
- Vetiver
- Cashmere Wood
- Musk

How Long Does Encre Noire Last?
Encre Noire lasts six hours on the skin with above-average projection. The first couple hours, it pushes out an arm’s length before receding closer to the skin, never becoming a skin scent.
When Should I Wear Encre Noire?
It is best worn in the fall, winter, and early spring when the cooler temperatures temper it. Any heat can make it very overwhelming.
As for occasions, it is best worn formally and casually. This is the type of fragrance that needs room to air out. In the office, this would be too powerful and too overwhelming.
Is Lalique Encre Noire Likable?
Lastly, mass appeal and likability are okay. This is a masculine fragrance with a unique twist that many may enjoy. However, on the flip side, the earthiness of the scent is very decisive.
lalique Encre Noire Clones
Surprisingly Encre Noire has numerous dupes. The most similar is Lalique Encre Noire Sport. However, outside of the Encre Noire line is Chanel Sycomore.
The only difference between these two fragrances is the cost and quality.
Final Words
A 100mL bottle can be purchased for anywhere between 20 and $30. The final burning question is Lalique Encre Noire worth it?
Yes, I even recommend it as a must-have. This is an affordable fragrance that will spice up every man’s collection. The one drawback is that it is not blind by safe.
After you try Lalique Encre Noire, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
