Ralph Lauren Polo Sport EDT Review – Do You Need It?

Polo Sport EDT.

One of Ralph Lauren’s best summer fragrances.

Ralph Lauren Polo Sport EDT was released in 1994. It is based on aromatics, spices, and greens. It lasts four hours on the skin with light projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Ralph Lauren Polo Sport EDT Smell Like?

The first couple of minutes smells like laundry detergent/dryer sheets. It is not repulsive but has a generic, clean smell. There are few citruses in the opening. Instead, it is fresh and aromatic mint atop oceanic notes.

The mint carries an intense spiciness for the first few minutes. After this, it loses much of the spice and stays clean and green. The green aquatic nature is the main idea in the first ten minutes. In the mid, the greenness becomes more intense with seaweed. I enjoy the direction in which seaweed takes the scent.

It takes a few minutes to come through. Yet, creamy orange adds a citric nature – subdued and bright. It keeps the greenness fresh, never becoming the focal point. In the background are subtle florals and/or aldehydes. Yet, I can’t determine which. They are faint and only emphasize the clean nature.

The dry down comes an hour or so into the wear. A decent dose of wood adds depth with musk nuances. The rest of the wear is fresh, green aquatics atop musky wood.

Performance

Polo Sport EDT lasts four hours on the skin with light projection. It pushes out a couple of feet for the first half an hour. After this period, it recedes to a close ambiance. This performance is with five sprays.

This is exclusively spring and summer wear. Even in the cooler temperatures of spring, it doesn’t last, or I have to douse myself. You’ll get three months of wear in a four-season climate.

As for occasions, it is only for casual events. This will be a great option if you like wearing fragrances to the gym. It is so subtle and unsophisticated that it doesn’t work well on many other occasions.

Lastly, mass appeal and likability are average. This is an enjoyable scent because it’s simple and fresh, but nothing about it is loud or unique that will grab attention. It’s only a fragrance someone will think, “Oh, he smells nice.”

Ralph Lauren Polo Sport EDT Clones

The most similar fragrance is Aqua Quorum Antonio Puig. The biggest difference is Aqua Quorum has a prominent lavender note not found in Polo Sport EDT. However, besides this, both are fresh aromatic, and spicy fragrances.

Final Words

Ralph Lauren Polo Sport EDT is not worth it. Nothing about the smell, performance, or cost makes it stand out above any other fresh fragrance. Nautica Voyage is a decent fragrance with the same greenness for a more affordable price.

Another excellent option is Missoni Wave, slightly more expensive ($60ish) but one of the best summer fragrances for men.

Polo Sport EDT is an excellent cologne and a polo cologne. Yet, don’t just limit yourself to Polo Sport EDT. Check out the best polo colognes for men. All are primed to cut through the cold air; you might just find your signature scent.
