Amouage Overture Man Review – Everything You Need To Know

Overture Man.

A mega-performer of a winter fragrance.

Amouage Overture Man was released in 2019. It is based on spices, amber, and smoky woods. It lasts 12+ hours on the skin with room-filling projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Amouage Overture Man Smell Like?

Cardamom, cumin, and saffron lead the opening. This trio is heavy, but it is never overwhelming. I find myself enveloped in the warmth rather than waiting for it to pass. In the background sits wafts of smoky incense atop a rich, resinous backbone. The first 15 minutes are all about warmth and depth.

As the scent develops, the resins become more intense. The smokiness fades while the sweetness of the resin fills its void. The background adds woody nuances. They’re a great pair for the resins but have yet to become prominent.

The rest of the wear finishes with resinous sweetness and smoky incense atop a woody backbone.

Performance

One of the best performers I’ve reviewed on this website. Overture Man lasts days on the skin, filling a room with its projection. I made a joke in my “best winter fragrances” article, mentioning the astronauts on the ISS would be able to smell you. A bit dramatic but a good representation of the Overture power.

Because of this massive performance, it has limited versatility. This is exclusively fall and winter wear. You’ll need the depths of winter to temper the strength. This is a big no-no in the spring and summer, even with one spray.

As for occasions, solely for casual wear when you’ll be in open settings and the fragrance has room to air out.

Lastly, the mass appeal and likability are decent. There are some decisive animalic notes here. However, with the heavy focus on spices and amber, it is likable for the most part. Overture Man is neither loved nor hated.

Where Should I Buy Amouage Overture Man?

Final Words

There aren’t any great clones of Overture Man. If you want the fragrance, you’ll have to pay the price. On the official website, Overture Man costs $360 for a 100mL bottle.

The final burning question is, is Amouage Overture Man worth it? Maybe. The smell is actually niche quality, and performance is there. This will definitely cut the cold winter air like a blade. However, I find Overture Man hard to wear. The stellar performance is its own downfall.

Like many of you, I spend a lot of time in rooms and near other people, and this is too intense.

If you’re buying a fragrance solely as an art form that is one of a kind and needed in your collection. However, I only recommend this fragrance if you have those goals.

Overture Man is an excellent cologne and a great winter scent. Yet, don’t just limit yourself to Overture Man. Check out the best winter colognes for men. All are primed to cut through the cold air; you might just find your signature scent.
