More than a teenager’s brand.
This review will describe the seven best axe scents for men. I will detail their scent and performance. All fragrances in this article are body spray versions.

#7 – Phoenix
One of the most popular Axe scents for men. It is the perfect combination of “dirty masculinity” and fresh cleanliness. On a good day, it has some resemblance to Dior Sauvage.
The scent is fresh, with citruses paired with equal parts powdery lavender. Wait a few moments, and you’ll smell the touch of soil tincture and the prominent musk that smells like dry sheets.
This is a darker fragrance but always clean.
With this masculine freshness, it’s primed for compliments and attention. Nothing about this scent screams juvenile, even though it is youthful.
This lasts two to three hours and projects further the heavier you apply.
#6 – Apollo
In high school, this was my go-to after gym class. It is bright, fresh, and easy to wear. It is based on fresh aromatics and warm cedar.
It has no greenness but a deep sage, like a refreshing citrus, without becoming too light. Whereas the woody notes are what you’d expect from cedar.
It smells masculine and powerful, but it’s not as much of a compliment-beast as other fragrances on this list. When I tried this again, my memory served well.
This is a decent projector for the first hour, then becomes a skin scent for the rest of the wear. This lasts four to five on the skin. It’s both impressive for Axe and body sprays.
#5 – Anarchy for Him
A sweeter and more complimented Axe cologne.
Anarchy for Him is all about sweet, fruity blueberry and lavender. The fruitiness is the part that grabs attention, while the lavender gives the clean touch you’ll want to smell with a body spray.
This is another one that gets four to five hours on the skin.
#4 – Africa
The most prominent accords are citrus and vanilla. I had to get my nose on the scent when I saw this. I have fallen in love with lemon and vanilla combinations from Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche and Xerjoff Uden. This drastically differs in quality but is still alluring.
The citrus is bergamot in this fragrance and has a degree of spice. While the vanilla is soft and alluring. This is one of the most complimented Axe body sprays. It’s not my thing anymore, but it was a beast back in the day.
This lasts two to three hours, and you’ll have to douse yourself for projection.
#3 – Excite
This is the most unique fragrance on the list. At least for me, I always think of Axe body sprays as fresh and invigorating.
Excite is the opposite. It’s a nutty coconut, wood, and sweet caramel. This delicious blend of gourmands would be your best Axe for a date night or formal event. It’s not just likable but seductive.
The primary emphasis is coconut, so if you don’t enjoy the sweetness or the creamy lactonic accents from coconut, you won’t enjoy this body spray.
This is in the three to four-hour range, but with the depth of the sweetness, it’s great at lingering in the air as you move around.
#2 – Gold (Oud Wood and Dark Vanilla)
This is the most shocking on the list. Oud in an Axe fragrance?
Done wrong, things can quickly go wrong, so how’d Axe do…? Excellent. You cannot find another oud note this good for ten dollars. The vanilla is the perfect pair as it is creamy and smooth enough to temper the rough edges of the Oud.
If you’re still getting familiar with this note talk, this is a dark, woody, and vanilla scent.
The performance is four hours on the skin with good density to hang in the air as you move around. I can’t promise a ton of compliments with this one because Oud can sometimes be decisive.
However, you will stand out above all other Axe wearers.
#1 – Dark Temptation
Dark Temptation had an easy win over all other Axe scents when making this list. It takes the best aspects of all fragrances and combines them into one.
The prominent notes are warm spices, sweet vanilla, and chocolate. It has the gourmand nature of Excite but with a more reserved sweetness.
On top of this, it has the darkness of Gold, making it so mysterious and alluring. Lastly, its best aspect is its stellar performance. It gets five hours on the skin with decent projection.
Final Words
Are Axe scents for men worth it? Yes, if you’re considering getting one, I recommend it. They are extremely inexpensive, and all have decently quality aromas. But they are youthful, and some even juvenile, so accept this before purchasing.
