#3 – Cartier Declaration Parfum

The opening is exceptionally dry and spicy. The first couple of minutes are all about cardamom before the overwhelming dose of cumin floods the opening. There is a fleeting orange and leather tinge, but most of the time, it is overwhelmed by the cumin.

The opening smells slightly like pencil shavings.

Decalartion Parfum lacks a mid. As the scent develops, it gets more resinous and less spicy, but the overarching emphasis is warm spices and will be for the rest of the wear. The base finishes with a woody, balsamic, and spicy aroma.

This lasts ten hours on the skin with moderate projection. The first two to three hours push out an arm’s length. After this period, it recedes to a light ambiance for the rest of the wear. This is spring, fall, and winter wear for all occasions.

#2 – Cartier L’Envol de Cartier EDP

Fragrant and airy honey lead the opening. It is paired with a fresher violet leaf and floral lavender combination. The honey is sweet and authentic but never becomes too cloying.

About an hour into the wear, a unique wildflower quality is added to the honey note. I attribute this to the natural-smelling lavender and adding sage and pepper spice. The sage and pepper combination is bitter but not in a bad way; it grabs attention.

The aromatics and florals fade in the dry down. The base is all about a clean and powdery honey and musk combination with a guaiac wood backbone. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

This lasts seven to eight hours on the skin with moderate projection. The first one to two hours is present but never overwhelming. After this period, it recedes to a light ambiance. This is spring, fall, and winter wear for all occasions.

#1 – Cartier Pasha de Cartier Parfum

The immediate opening is a blast of earthy darkness with smoky and woody accents. Until I looked at the note breakdown, I didn’t know this was from a big blast of ambrocenide. If you are unfamiliar, fragrantica describes it as an “extremely powerful and very sharp woody scent with ambery; slightly animalic and smokey agarwood tones.” I don’t get every part of this description, but most of it.

Accompanying ambrocenide is a strong fir note and resinous woody tones. The fir note in the opening really amplifies the earthiness. All of this is undertoned by boozy liquor.

This happens in the first half an hour and then transitions to a warmer and spicer tone. There is no specific spice note but rather spice accents from the top notes carried into the mid. At this point, it’s mostly a hefty dose of amber.

The dry down is dominant, ambery sandalwood and balsamic accords playing second fiddle. Pasha de Cartier Parfum is excellent wear for all occasions. It only struggles in the summer and the warm months of spring. This lasts eight hours on the skin with moderate projection.

Final Words

The final burning question is, are Cartier colognes worth it? Maybe. All are old-school fragrances. Pasha de Cartier Parfum was on my “sexiest colognes for men” list. However, it is an acquired taste. Speaking of acquired taste. Declaration Parfum is a decisive fragrance not for everyone.

I don’t recommend blind-buying any of these fragrances, but if you can sample, try them out.

If you try a Cartier cologne for men, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
