#5 – Hermes H24

The opening is immediately fresh with an herbal sage blast. There aren’t any citruses; exclusively, the sage keeps this fresh. Playing second fiddle in the background is Sclarene. It brings warmth and a hefty dose of metallic accents.

Within a few minutes, nuances of light florals and fresh accents linger in the background. I can’t pinpoint the additional freshness, but it differs from the dominant sage. The florals are significant from the first few minutes to the dry down. Instead of clean white florals, it is a denser yellow floral. They bring more of a sweet and spicy aroma.

The florals fade in the dry down. Prominent rosewood and dry oak moss jump to the forefront. The oak moss is slightly sharp but doesn’t detract from the more prominent woods. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

H24 lasts six to seven hours on the skin with above-average projection. It pushes out an arm’s length or more for the first three to four hours. After this period, it recedes to a two-foot ambiance for the rest of wear, never becoming a skin scent. This is spring, summer, and early fall wear. As for occasions, it is all.

#4 – Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil

The opening starts with a sparkling, tart, and citric grapefruit. It is extremely fresh and sets the tone for the rest of the wear. A tangy green mango and clean lotus floral are playing second fiddle in the background.

The mango has a fruity sweetness, while the lotus keeps the fragrance clean and fresh but in a unique way besides the grapefruit. The first few minutes have an earthy yet never dirty tinge that can be attributed to the tomato and carrot notes – yes, you read that right.

The mid gets soapier. It is still fresh but with a heavier emphasis on green florals. A lot of the greenness comes from the tomato note. If you’ve pruned or touched tomato plants before, you know that specific smell. That’s what you get here, but less intense; I promise it’s more pleasant than it sounds.

A soft and sweet powder comes through in the dry down. There is lingering freshness and florals, but most of what I smell is resinous and slightly spicy labdanum.

This lasts five to six hours on the skin with light to intimate projection. The first hour of wear is very present. It slowly weakens to hour three, becoming a skin scent for the rest of the wear. This is late spring and summer wear for all occasions.

#3 – Hermes Terre d’Hermes Eau Givree

The overarching emphasis is an extremely fresh fragrance. It’s all about the citron note that comes across with both grapefruit and lemon accents. This is a large majority of the opening and mid. As the scent develops, there are some slight aromatics, but they solely amplify the freshness of the scent.

The dry-down is your typical d’Hermes base. It is a bright and clean earthiness with citric nuances. More so than the Parfum and EDP versions, this is dialed down and more wearable.

This lasts six hours on the skin, with decent projection for the first hour. It slowly recedes to hour three, then becomes a skin scent. This is late spring and summer wear for all occasions.

#2 – Hermes Concentrate D’Orange Verte

It’s an extremely simple fragrance.

The opening is an authentic orange, cut grass, and a bright lime note. The lime is tart and intense, but it is energizing. If you’ve ever picked fresh citruses, this is the same aroma that consumes you.

The cut grass accord may seem odd, but it’s a great way to temper the citruses while retaining a fresh fragrance.

As the citruses lose strength, mosses, woods, and greens appear front and center. They mainly amplify the greenness from the grass accord but add a woody depth. The dry down is simple but adds a nice dynamic to the lovely citrus. The rest of the wear is wood-dominant with fresh accents.

Concentrate D’Orange Verte EDT lasts six hours on the skin with intimate projection. It has the performance of a typical authentic citrus fragrance. The entire wear maintains a light ambiance of one foot. This is exclusively late spring and summer wear. As for occasions, it is all.

#1 – Hermes Terre d’Hermes Parfum

Orange starts off with a bang, followed by prominent grapefruit. The orange is bold, and the citruses are bitter. It can be overwhelming if you aren’t expecting the blast, but it dries down quickly.

Into the mid is a unique note of flint. It provides a slightly earthy/Stoney vibe. Calming down the abrasive citrus and preparing you for the sensual woody base.

This blend creates a bright, earthy aroma. Citruses still linger in the base, harnessing the strength of the strong moss and woody notes. Amplifying the brightness is ginger, which adds spice and some warmth. The rest of the wear is an invigorating, fresh, and woody cologne. Simple but bold and ready to satisfy.

Terre d’Hermes Parfum lasts eight to ten hours on the skin with above-average projection. For an authentic citrus fragrance, this is an amazing performance. The first three hours this pushes out an arm’s length or more. After this period, it recedes but maintains a mild ambiance of multiple feet for the rest of the wear.

This is all season and occasion wear except the coldest days of winter.

Final Words

The final burning question is, are Hermes colognes worth it? Yes. They are like Guerlain fragrances. They are all high-quality but should be more appreciated. I recommend having one Hermes fragrance in your collection, especially one of these five, as they are all great choices.

After you try a Hermes cologne, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
