What Does Black Phantom By Kilian Smell Like?
A dark and sweet caramel accord leads, supported by prominent dark chocolate and a flood of sweet rum. Is it gourmand? You bet! This tasteful sweetness is the entire first few minutes. It is present the rest of the wear but not to the same intensity.
After a few moments, coffee accords make their way in with the bitterness of a freshly brewed cup. The sweetness would get too intense if it weren’t for this coffee accord. The initial appearance is prominent but then fades to the intensity of the rum note.
The sweetness fades into the dry down. Smooth almonds and sandalwood fill its void. They add a woody depth but also smooth out the gourmands. The final dry-down has more intense wood notes. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

Black Phantom lasts seven to eight hours on the skin with intimate projection. It creates a one-foot ambiance around you for hours. However, it does leave a few-foot trail as it is pretty dense.
It is exclusively for fall and winter wear. With this much sweetness, any heat will make it cloying. You’ll get a solid three months of wear in a four-season climate. As for occasions, it is solely for dates and formal events. If you wear a fragrance like this, you want to stand out.
Lastly, likability and mass appeal are excellent. This is a different kind of attention-grabber. The gourmand nature has a seductive allure found only in a few other fragrances.
Black Phantom Clones
There are a few decent Black Phantom dupes on the market. But the best is Insomnia Faviol Seferi. I don’t have experience with this fragrance, but based on the scent accords, it is nearly the same scent profile but with a more prominent woody accord.
Final Words
Black Phantom is one of a kind from its quality and scent profile. Only a few other fragrances, like Parfums de Marly Oajan and By Kilian Angels Share, have what it takes to compete with this masterpiece.
The final burning question is, is By Kilian Black Phantom worth it? Yes. It is expensive, but it is one of those fragrances you buy once in a lifetime and only wear a handful of times a year for special events when you really want to turn heads.
However, be careful. This isn’t blind-buy safe. Gourmands don’t always work for everyone’s skin chemistries. It is also extremely sweet. If you have a sensitive nose, it could be nauseating.
