Aqva Marine.
A bright and crisp oceanic scent.
Bvlgari Aqva Marine was released in 2008. It is based on aquatics, citrus, and aromatics. It lasts seven hours on the skin with moderate projection.
In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Bvlgari Aqva Marine Smell Like?
You are hit with prominent grapefruit and neroli from the opening blast. It is all about grapefruit creating the fresh aquatic accord as it develops.
The grapefruit comes across as more bitter than sweet, but it won’t make your nose “pucker.” Along with grapefruit, light florals help lighten and brighten the fragrance.
Halfway through the scent, heavy doses of both marine and salty notes amplify. They were always in the opening’s background but let the grapefruit take the lead.
In the base, you’ll find warm woods and musk. They are light but add depth to the lighter ocean notes. As the scent develops, the marine and salty notes are more oceanic than aquatic.

Aqva Marine Performance
Aqva Marine lasts seven hours on the skin with moderate projection. It pushes out two to three feet for the first couple of hours. After this period, it recedes closer to the skin, never becoming a skin scent.
This performance is with five sprays.
This is exclusively late spring and summer wear. In a four-season climate, you’ll get three months of wear. Before I bought it, I thought I would get a couple more months, but this is much lighter than expected.
As for occasions, it is all but formal. It is a simple aquatic fragrance that doesn’t have the “oomph factor to stand out. While it has a wearable scent and subtle projection for all other events.
This translates to its above-average mass appeal and likability. There are no decisive notes in the fragrance that will be off-putting. I’ve never gotten compliments with this one, as it doesn’t shout for attention.
Yet, I can see this getting complimented in the right situation – I’m not pulling your leg.
Bvlgari Aqva Marine Clones
The most similar fragrance is the flanker Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine Toniq. It has the same prominent aquatic accords but lacks the prevalent citrus opening. The original (one reviewed in this article) is the better version.
Outside of the line, Maison Margiela Sailing Day is the best dupe. The biggest difference is Sailing Day’s lack of a citrus accord.
Final Words
Is Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine worth it? A sample or decant. I enjoy the fragrance and think it smells high-quality, but it is slightly too expensive. This isn’t a $70 fragrance for me. $40-50? Definitely.
Thus, try a sample and fall in love with it before you get a potentially average fragrance.
Bvlgari Aqva Marine is a decent fragrance. However, don’t limit yourself to Aqva Marine. Discover the best summer fragrances for men here.
