#3 – Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses for Him

It’s one of the most linear fragrances I’ve tried. Despite its black bottle, this is a light, clean, and pleasant fragrance. The opening starts with lavender, bergamot, and spicy nuances. All of the accords are light enough to emphasize the fragrance’s freshness.

Within 10 – 15 minutes, Skulls & Roses is entirely developed. There’s a decent dose of musk, amplifying the clean aroma of lavender and bergamot. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

The longevity is in the six-hour range with light projection. The first hour pushes out well. After this period, it is a subtle ambiance until it becomes a skin scent at hour six. This is spring, summer, and fall wear for casual situations. However, I could also see this as a date night scent for the price.

#2 – Parfums de Marly Percival

The opening starts with a blast of fresh citruses and floral lavender. Bergamot is noticeable in the background as it contributes a slightly spicy kick. Other citruses temper its strength, never allowing it to come to the forefront.

The floral lavender is particularly enjoyable. It comes off as very clean and authentic. Pairing perfectly with the fresh citruses and emphasizing the vibrance of the opening.

As the top notes settle, wafts of musk and ambroxan spew from the base. Both will be at full strength later in the wear.

The heart of the fragrance starts to develop after 15 minutes. Ambroxan jumps to the forefront, pushing the citruses into the background. They lend more of their fresh accents than actual smell at this point.

The lavender from the top gives way to the greater whole of aromatics. Most contribute floral accents, but the background has a fleeting green tone.

One of the most interesting parts of the mid is the use of hedione. It has been shown in research to act as almost a pheromone. Yet, I am unsure how much this translates into scent and attractivity.

Over time, the smell is continuously more ambroxan-dominated. Pushing the aromatic florals into the background. As the dry-down develops, it is dominated by subtle ambroxan and aromatic nuances for the rest of the wear.

Percival lasts 8 – 10 hours on the skin and projects moderately during that time. It isn’t a scent that fills a room but leaves a pleasantly sized scent bubble around you for the first few hours. This is all-season and occasion wearable.

#1 – Mont Blanc Legend EDP

Violet leaf is the focus of the opening. It is paired with equal parts citric bergamot and a leathery depth. The overarching emphasis is fresh and green. After a few minutes, a more prevalent green note of oakmoss from the base comes through. It remains clean and sits in the background with leather.

Bergamot fades in the mid; I catch wafts of floral jasmine in the background. They must have always been there, giving the fragrance cleanliness. However, the intensity of the opening masked them. Violet leaf is still at the forefront with woods, moss, and leather supporting.

The dry-down is drastically simpler. A mossy violet leaf with leather sits atop a wood backbone. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

This lasts eight to nine hours on the skin with moderate projection. In the first few hours, it pushes out an arm’s length, then recedes but never becomes a skin scent. This is all-season and occasion wear.

Final Words

The final burning question is, are Abercrombie Fierce dupes worth it? Yes. Whenever I do a clone list, there are always a few that smell like the original but are so synthetic that no one should ever wear them.

However, Legend EDP and Percival are of higher quality, while Skulls & Roses is of the same quality and price.

If you’re looking for a more affordable option. Don’t. Pay the $30 for Fierce. Yet, if you like its scent development and want better quality, try out Legend EDP; it’s slightly more expensive. Once you get to “level two,” go all the way and try Percival.

After you try a cologne that smells like Abercrombie Fierce, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
