Royal Oud.
One of the best beginner oud fragrances for men.
Creed Royal Oud was released in 2011. It is based on wood and musk. It lasts seven to eight hours on the skin with moderate projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Creed Royal Oud Smell Like?
Oud is in the name; it must be all about Oud, right? No. It’s there but subtle. The opening begins with subtle pink pepper and a fleeting dose of citruses while soft cedar lingers in the background. The first few minutes are not about the notes but the warmth that invites you in.
20 minutes into the wear, the citruses and spices are almost gone. An herbal greenness fills its void while cedar strengthens in the background. The mid retains the fresh and inviting nature, expressed through the greenness.
Cedar jumps to the forefront in the dry down, with equal parts powdery musk. Herbal greens linger but don’t contribute much after a few hours. There are some oud notes, but the entire wear is mostly about woody cedar.

Performance
The performance is gentlemanly. Royal Oud lasts seven to eight hours on the skin with average but consistent projection. It pushes out two feet for most of the wear before receding, never becoming a skin scent.
As for wearability, Royal Oud is exclusively for spring, fall, and winter for all occasions. It can’t be worn in the winter because the woods get too intense. As well as, the smell is stereotypical of those times of the year. If you live in a four-season climate, you’ll get a solid nine months of wear out of this.
Lastly, the mass appeal and likability are excellent. Oud fragrances tend to be decisive, but they are incredibly alluring when they are high quality and done well.
Creed Royal Oud Clones
According to fragrantica, the most similar fragrance is Lomani Intense Black. Based on the scent profile, the biggest difference is a stronger spice accord and oud note.
Final Words
Creed Royal Oud can range from $500 to $600 for a 100mL bottle. I really enjoy the fragrance as it has an old-money scent that is elegant and sophisticated. Even though it does scream old money, it never comes off as too mature or “old”; instead, it’s confident.
As said in the introduction, this is one of the best oud fragrances for beginners as it is so well-blended and high-quality. It doesn’t have a heavy oud note, but it is still noticeable.
The final burning question is, is Creed Royal Oud worth it? Yes, it is expensive, but you get what you pay for. It’s not a must-have as this isn’t so good that it’s above all other oud fragrances. However, it is one of the best of the brand. And that says a lot from a brand like Creed.
