Dior Sauvage vs. Bleu de Chanel

Dior Sauvage

When you spray this on, you’ll get the freshness of authentic bergamot. It is slightly like lemonade but not that bitter or citric. Some light spices are in the mix, but they’re never right there. I have to “look” for them a little bit.

In the background, you can tell the warm ambroxan is ready to rumble. And do you know what it does? Five minutes into the wear, it washes over the scent like a tidal wave.

It brings a clean lavender that is kind of barbershop-like but only lasts for the first half an hour or so.

From this point on, it is all about the warmth of ambroxan (amber). I honestly can’t smell anything else until the last few hours when the light addition of musk smells like clean sheets in the best way possible.

When it comes to performance, Dior Sauvage EDP does it all well. It lasts ten hours off my skin and fills a room. The longevity and projection are beast mode, and it works for all seasons, occasions, and times of the day.

Bleu de Chanel

What’s a Bleu de Chanel fragrance without grapefruit? This fresh, citric nature is all I smell for the first few moments. Then comes the most invigorating dose of spicy mint.

This is the part that gets the attention of all parts of the scent. You could also convince yourself there’s some warm ginger, but spicy mint is the star.

For the first half an hour, the focus is mint with grapefruit and then light, warm woods in the background. After this period, the fresh, warm woods take over the rest of the wear.

There are some smoky accents in the last few hours, and the mint lingers, but that’s it.

The longevity and projection are above average. Five sprays will last you a workday and then some.

No matter the season or occasion, it performs well. It is not unique, but it smells outstanding and works for everything.

Final Words

The versions compared above are the EDP versions of the fragrances. If you are unfamiliar, this is the concentration of the fragrance. I have tried all concentrations, and the EDP versions are best for both lines.

Here’s a review of the entire Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel lines.

So, how do the two compare? Both openings start with a burst of citruses and equal parts spice. Dior Sauvage’s spice is fresher, whereas Bleu de Chanel is darker and zingy.

After a few minutes, they both have fresh aromatic accords. Sauvage has a smoother lavender, and Bleu de Chanel has an authentic mint note. Both scents are still fresh, but Sauvage stays lighter and warmer. The mint has more of a cooling effect.

Lastly, the base. Sauvage is all about warm and smooth ambroxan. Bleu de Chanel is a darker wood. Both fragrances, from beginning to end, are well-blended, and neither has rough edges. Yet, I find Sauvage to be “smoother.”

The performances are basically the same. Sauvage is slightly stronger, but both will last an entire workday and a few more hours.

So, which is best…? Dior Sauvage. I find it to be a slightly more pleasant wear. It’s the smoothness of Sauvage that does it for me.

However, Bleu de Chanel EDP is the better choice if you’re buying a fragrance for more of a date night scent.

No matter which fragrance you choose, you’re getting an outstanding scent. There’s no wrong choice here. After you try Bleu de Chanel or Dior Sauvage, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
