What Does John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider Smell Like?
The first spray is BAM! Bright citruses with an herbal nature. But within moments, not minutes, moments, dark and outdoorsy resins swallow them whole.
It becomes this dark and heavy scent that is so true to the name.
After a few minutes, some florals peak in and out, but like the citruses, they don’t add much nor last long. These florals fading will lead to prevalent leather in the background that never slaps you in the face.
It takes a few hours, but the leather will fuse with raw cocoa. Does it smell like a chocolate bar? No, far from it. It is earthy and bitter.
The scent stops changing soon after. The rest of the wear is very dark with resinous woods and bitter leather.

When Should I Wear Dark Rebel Rider?
This is exclusively fall and winter wear. The woods will get too intense in the heat. As for occasions, it is all but great for dates. It’s great for close-quarter settings because it is subtle and won’t overwhelm anyone.

The most similar fragrance is the original Dark Rebel. The only difference is that the original has some sweeter accords and rum nuances. Yet, the prominent woods and leather are still the same.
I love the wide array of notes in the fragrance iris in the opening, cacao in the mid, and leather in the base. Around every “corner,” there’s always another surprise.
