What Does L’Instant de Guerlain Homme EDP Smell Like?
L’Instant’s powerful citrus opening is impressive. It’s a fleeting waft of bergamot and lemon. In the background are a light resinous nature and soft, sweet anise. The anise from the get-go smells of warm and woody spices. It’s a unique spice combined with others.
For quite a while, I get refreshing citruses with spice. Over the next one to two hours, the opening combination slowly transitions. Light patchouli with some lavender and white floral touches lead the way. The patchouli is dark and woody, emphasizing the anise and preparing you for the base.
With 3 hours left in the wear, the dry-down starts. Patchouli becomes stronger and brings dark cocoa and a variety of woody notes with it. This is a slightly earthy pairing. Yet, still has a delicious gourmand faucet. The rest of the wear has these same accords, but the notes get softer and warmer.

L’Instant de Guerlain Homme lasts six hours on the skin with light but consistent projection. It pushes out one to two feet for most of the wear. This may seem like a downfall, but it makes the fragrance great for the occasions it is meant for.
I get this performance with five sprays. You can attempt to spray heavier, but it doesn’t project further, only more intensely. To me, wasting sprays after five.
This can be worn in the fall, winter, and early spring. The projection becomes too intense in warmer weather. The warm spices also best fit the colder times of the year when we stereotypically think of warm and spicy fragrances. You’ll get five to six months of wear in a four-season climate.
As for the occasions, it is all. But best suited for dates and formal occasions. This is an extremely alluring aroma, hence why it made my “sexiest colognes for men” list. The same can be said for formal occasions, a scent that stands out. As for all other occasions, the projection is subtle enough to never overwhelm.
Lastly, mass appeal and likability. Outstanding, it has a unique, subtle, and attractive aroma that impresses nearly anyone. If you want compliments, this has a decent chance of garnering them.
Final Words
There aren’t any great L’Instant de Guerlain Homme dupes outside of the brand. The most similar flankers are the Eau Extreme and EDT versions. Each which their respective differences.
