YSL Tuxedo Full Review – Why You Need It

Tuxedo.

The best formal occasion fragrance for men.

YSL Tuxedo was released in 2015. It’s based on patchouli, amber, and vanilla. It lasts eight hours on the skin, with gentlemanly projection.

In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does YSL Tuxedo Smell Like?

Fleeting violet leaf and bergamot lead. They don’t have their typical accents. The duo has an energetic, fresh kick with a subtle greenness.

A couple of moments later, the scent rolls into a gourmand mixture. Rose and patchouli are at the forefront with edges of black pepper.

It is hard to describe, but it’s rich, dense, and airy. When doing some background research for this article. I particularly like Gent Scents’ comparison. He said the opening was like the consistency of meringue pie.

Once the patchouli comes through, it’s all you’ll smell until the dry down. And once you get into the base, it is the best part of the fragrance. A prominent amber combines with patchouli, bringing dark vanilla with it.

The rest of the wear, patchouli and amber, are the focal points, with tinges of dark vanilla.

Tuxedo Performance

How Long Does YSL Tuxedo Last?

It lasts eight hours on the skin with moderate but consistent projection. I know you’re thinking, how can this be great if the longevity and projections are only slightly above average?

This performance is with three sprays.

When Should I Wear YSL Tuxedo?

Well, as the name suggests Tuxedo is best for formal occasions.

You’ll only want a mild projector so it doesn’t consume those around you. And here it is done perfectly. This could be pulled off casually, but with its uniqueness and price, it’s best saved for special occasions.

As for seasons, it’s pretty versatile. It’s best in the fall and winter but still works in the spring and sometimes in summer if cool.

YSL Tuxedo isn’t a rich and deep scent like some winter fragrances, but it still has enough depth to be too much in the high heat.

Is YSL Tuxedo Attractive?

Mass appeal and likability are easy. This is a fragrance that is loved by everyone and allures attention. But a different kind of attention. This is so unique and intriguing that people must get closer to get a better sniff.

Yet, it won’t necessarily get you compliments.

YSL Tuxedo Clones

YSL Tuxedo has many clones because it’s such a fantastic scent.

The best dupe is The Tux by Maison Alhambra. The bottle style and nearly everything about the scent is cloned. This is one of the best clone scents ever, as it is so accurate without being too low quality.

The next clone is Rochas Moustache EDP. Both are very similar scents. However, the biggest difference is Moustache’s lack of a prominent patchouli note, which is the main focus in Tuxedo.

Moustache EDP has a heavier emphasis on vanilla.

Is YSL Tuxedo Discontinued?

YSL Tuxedo is not discontinued. It is still available on YSL’s official website.

However, it can’t be found on discounters. This is normal for niche fragrances from designer brands as they don’t usually let them hit the discounted wholesale market.

Final Words

YSL Tuxedo is an easy fragrance to recommend as it is such an amazing fragrance. There is nothing about this fragrance that throws any red or orange flags. It truly is a work of art.

I won’t call this fragrance a must-have because it is so expensive. But it is worth a sample or decant and a full bottle if you have the money to spend.

Tuxedo is an excellent cologne and a sophisticated one. Yet, don’t just limit yourself to Tuxedo. Check out the best YSL colognes.
