Le Male.
A fragrance that knows how to attract attention.
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male was released in 1995. It is based on vanilla, aromatics, subtle lavender, and spices. It lasts eight hours on the skin with above-average projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Smell Like?
The opening is led by a hefty dose of aromatics. The most prominent are floral lavender and spicy mint. Other green aromatics and herbals are in the background, but neither is prominent enough to be distinguishable. All opening notes are supported by a warm vanilla depth peaking up from the base.
In the mid, there is a transition. The intensity of the aromatics is replaced by warm and spicy cardamom. This is an excellent addition to the vanilla, amplifying its warmth. The vanilla never gets too sweet but does have a decent powdery accent.
It’s not until a few hours into the wear when the dry down starts. I smell amber, amplifying the warmth of the fragrance and a more prominent woody base. The aromatics have faded at this point.
The base is the better part of the fragrance and garners more attention. The overarching emphasis is warmth throughout the entire scent. The rest of the wear is a prominent vanilla and woods duo with spice and ambery nuances in the background.

Performance
Le Male lasts eight hours on the skin with above-average projection. The first four hours it has a solid projection of an arm’s length or more. After this period, it slowly recedes but never becomes a skin scent. This performance is with five sprays.
This is fall, winter, and early spring wear. If you’re in a cooler climate, you may be able to pull this off in the summer. Anything above 60 degrees Fahrenheit becomes too intense and makes me nauseous. As for occasions, it is best for going out and casual events. It needs room to air out.
The mass appeal and likability are excellent. If you look at the shape of the bottle, it gives you a pretty good idea of the fragrance. This is why it’s such a great fragrance for going out because it gets a ton of compliments.
The uniqueness is average. When this was first released, this alluring mixture of notes wasn’t common for others. However, over time, the uniqueness of the DNA has become diluted.
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Clones
The best Le Male clone is Cuba Gold Cuba Paris. It is an excellent dupe. The only difference is the switch in intensity for lavender and vanilla. Cuba Gold is heavy on lavender and lighter on vanilla. And vice versa for Le Male.
Where Should I Buy Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male?
Final Words
Is Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male worth it? Yes and no. The smell and performance are there, but… the flanker Le Male Le Parfum is a better take on the DNA while still having an attention-grabbing aroma.
The biggest downfall of Le Male is its old-schoolness. It’s not too mature for younger guys, but it never left the 90s.
