How Does Bergamote 22 Smell?
It’s all about citrus from the beginning. Bergamot leads the way with dry spices and orange blossom, not following too far behind. The bergamot is your typical citrus smell but also has a sparkling nature. This quality is fleeting but enjoyable while it lasts.
The orange blossom and spices only support – orange blossom being the most prominent. It amplifies the citrus accord and creates balance with its white floral accent.
As the dry-down develops, light citrus is retained. While a semi-woody and musky base is gained. The woodiness has an earthy accent from the vetiver but nothing that comes off as off-putting. At this point, the scent is more dry than sweet. The rest of the wear is woody musk and lingering top notes.
#3 – Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds
Bois Blonds is not an exact replica. The opening is led by soapy Neroli with citric and fresh tinges. Bergamote 22 has an intense bergamot opening. Both are very fresh. In the background, both have a decent dose of spices.
The mids of both fragrances are orange blossom notes. In Bois Blonds, it donates more of a floral nature. Whereas, Bergamote 22 has a more aromatic nature. The bases are near 1:1 replicas. It’s fresh woods with musky and earthy accents.
This lasts six hours on the skin with light projection. It pushes out two feet for the first two to three hours before becoming a skin scent. This is spring and summer wear. In colder temperatures, spray heavier. As for occasions, it is all.
Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds Performance
- Longevity: 6 hours
- Projection and Sillage: Light
- Versatility: Spring & Summer for all occasions
- Most Prominent Notes: Neroli, Orange Blossom, Woods, and Musk
#2 – Jardins de La Bargamote Nilafar du Nil
This is the opposite of Bois Blonds, as it’s a dupe of the opening. The intense Bergamot note in the opening is extremely similar to Bergamote 22. However, you won’t find any spices in the fragrance.
After an hour of wear, it starts to deviate. Jardins de la Bargamote is all about citruses and fresh, non-soapy Neroli. While Bergamote 22 heads in a woodier direction with musky and earthy accents.
This lasts five to six hours on the skin but with light projection. Once the citruses fade around the hour mark, the projection recedes to the skin. This is exclusively spring and summer wear. And for all occasions.
This only ranks #2 as it emphasizes the authentic bergamot accord, which is what Le Labo bergamot 22 is known for.
Jardins de la Bargamote Performance
- Longevity: 5 – 6 hours
- Projection and Sillage: Light
- Versatility: Spring & Summer for all occasions
- Most Prominent Notes: Bergamot, Neroli, and Musk
#1 – Commodity Moss
The scent development is near the same in both but differs in intensities. The opening has a bright and citric blast of bergamot, but it lacks a heavy emphasis on spices. As the scent develops, there is a similar white floral and fresh nature from the orange blossom.
The dry down is the same as Bergamote 22 but differs in how it presents it. As you can assume from the name, there has a significant emphasis on mossy woods in the base. They are slightly wet and earthy. In the background, there are some musky accents.
I get five hours on the skin with light projection. The first hour is decent, but it slowly recedes to hour three. After this period, it becomes a skin scent for the rest of the wear. This is spring, summer, and fall wear for all occasions. Make sure to spray heavier in cooler temperatures.
Commodity Moss Performance
- Longevity: 5 hours
- Projection and Sillage: Light
- Versatility: Spring & Summer for all occasions
- Most Prominent Notes: Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Moss, and Musk
Final Words
All three clones have their respective tweaks but are all great replicas of Bergamote 22. I enjoy Commodity Moss, but I would still rather have Bergamote 22 as it is much higher quality than all clones in this article.
After you try one of those Bergamote 22 dupes, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
