What DOes Acqua di Parma Essenza Smell Like?
Lemon and grapefruit lead the first five minutes. Their main idea is citric freshness. In the background is a tinge of orange blossom. It gives the scent a semi-sweet and clean aroma. If it weren’t for this addition, the citruses would be too intense.
After this period, things start to lighten up. A light and green accent makes its way in without undermining the citruses. As the scent progresses, it is all about neroli. It has a heavy emphasis on a fresh and clean floral nature. The citruses from before linger. Yet, they only amplify the freshness.
In the dry down, neroli dominates while a green and musk tinge lingers in the background. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

Performance
The longevity and projection are great for a citrus-based fragrance. Essenza lasts 6 – 8 hours on the skin with average but consistent projection. The first few hours create a subtle ambiance of one to two feet around you. Its only downfall is that it doesn’t create a long scent trail. It’s better when you’re standing still.
The versatility is not limited as it seems it would. This is an excellent choice for the spring and summer. Even in the early fall, this can be worn. When I discovered this was based on authentic citruses, I immediately thought it would be exclusively for summer, but I was pleasantly surprised.
If you live in a four-season climate, you’ll get a solid six to seven months of wear out of this. The warmer your climate, the more versatile Essenza becomes.
As for the occasions, it is great for all. It has a unique take on citruses and florals that make it interesting enough for dates and formal occasions. On the flip side, it also has light enough projection to never overwhelm in close-quarter settings.
Lastly, the mass appeal and likability are fantastic. Who doesn’t like a citrus fragrance?
Acqua di Parma Essenza Clones
There are two fragrances with similar aromas. Acqua di Parma Colonia has the same intense, authentic citruses. However, instead of the white florals in Essenza, it heavily emphasizes aromatics, spices, and light woods.
Outside of the Acqua di Parma brand. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte is the closet clone. It is a better dupe with higher-quality notes and a slightly woody base.
Final Words
The final burning question is, is Acqua di Parma Essenza worth it? This is an easy fragrance to recommend, as it is above average in nearly every category. One of my favorite aspects is that the brand uses authentic ingredients, but the fragrances are still affordable.
A 100mL bottle is usually in the $60 range. This is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a warm-weather fragrance.
