#9 – Chanel Paris – Edimbourg

Right off the bat, a bright, fresh green quality awakens the senses. This nature is attributed to an effervescent blend of juniper and Cypress.

Both are significantly woody but still have a clean and airy vibe. I compare it to walking through the forest after an early morning dew.

After a few minutes, lavender adds a soft soapiness. It helps temper the strength of the forest tone. Cypress weakens in the mid. This allows the vetiver to become more prominent, bringing cedar with it.

With Cypress fading, the authentic forest smell fades. Yet, the scent still maintains the outdoorsy vibe.

Heading into the dry down, the greenness dissipates. Lavender with the remaining wood fills the void. Vanilla is the last addition.

The rest of the wear is lavender with some woody cypress. All are enveloped in the creamy and sweet nature of vanilla.

Chanel Paris – Edimbourg has the poorest longevity on the list. It struggles during the colder temperatures and night, but you can wear it for all occasions.

#8 – Chanel Antaeus

Meet a manly man in the classiest form. Chanel utilizes animalic notes to give Antaeus its ultra-masculine nature. Some of you may cringe when you hear about the use of animalic notes.

Yet, it is easy to wear and approachable. Chanel has fine-tuned the use of castoreum.

Right off the bat, the opening is a leathery castoreum (animalic notes). It can be dominant at first and makes you feel like it will be the only smell for the scent. Yet, as the fragrance develops, fresh aromatics peak from the background.

At this point, it is a balancing act between fresh and animalic tones. It took the aromatics some time, but they provided a good balance.

Once in the dry down, castoreum is still strong, but there are earthier additions. These are oak moss and woody accords. They contribute to the masculine nature but take the scent in a different direction.

For the entire wear, it was never a dirty scent but rather old-school and masculine.

On top of its outstanding smell, it’s an all-occasion wear. The projection and longevity are slightly above-average, but it is still intense. Not one I would recommend wearing in warm temperatures. Especially if you’ll be in an office-type setting all day.

#7 – Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP

Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP is from one of the oldest lines of colognes I have reviewed. The original Pour Monsieur was released in 1955. Chanel has reformulated and released a 2016 Pour Monsieur version.

The moment I spray this on, it instantly gives me old-money vibes. It sure is a classic; you can tell the DNA is older, but it has a modernized touch. The scent is simple, with only five notes.

The opening is slow and gradually develops throughout the day.

From the top, sharp and fresh lemon adds a citrus twist to the aromatic lavender. Together they are fresh yet classic. Nuances of nutmeg mix and minge from opening to base. It adds just enough spice to make the invigorating scent you’d expect.

Now in the base, vetiver gives this cologne its depth. Vanilla is the final missing note and pulls everything together.

For the rest of the wear, you’re left with a dry and creamy classic barbershop cologne.

Fortunately, you can exude subtle masculine confidence for all occasions and seasons. There’s no situation when this fragrance isn’t pumping.

#6 – Chanel Les Exclusifs de Chanel Sycomore

Close your eyes and open your imagination. You’re walking through the forest mid-autumn. The trees are half bare, and there is a sweet dew aroma from last night’s rain.

This story is the epitome of Les Exclusifs de Chanel Sycomore’s smell.

The opening is sharp but not overpowering, prominently cypress and vetiver accords. Both are very rich and well-blended. The cypress brings the woody “fall” aroma.

Vetiver amplifies the woodiness of the scent and gives the fragrance an earthy tone.

Lingering in the background are faint spices and aldehydes that give the prominent cypress and vetiver accords a fresh accent. This is the sole reason. Sycomore never comes across as too “earthy.”

The dry down retains its fresh woodiness. The vetiver was the main note for the entire wear and was exceptionally well balanced.

An extremely simple perfume but one that can impress any man or woman.

This is the perfect scent for a man who wants an inoffensive and masculine-leaning scent. The performance is near beast mode and works best in the fall.

Les Exclusifs de Chanel Sycomore is so unique and special that it is best saved for a special occasion.

#5 – Chanel Coromandel

Powerful and rich, Chanel Coromandel is a relatively newer men’s perfume. Yet, it still follows a classy backbone like many of its fellow Chanel colognes.

The opening starts off soft. Lead by equal parts warm benzoin and slightly earthy patchouli. At first, this duo is exclusive. But after a few minutes, neroli becomes present with nuances of other notes.

The main idea is a blend of freshness to contrast the depth and warmth of the dominant top notes.

Powdery iris adds after some time. But it is more about the powdery nature than the smell of iris. This leads into the mid, where the top notes get gentler. Not in projection, but instead, they are smoother.

The addition of incense to benzoin and patchouli follows this change. The trio is a perfect pair and really amplifies the classic nature of Coromandel EDP.

Soft resins initiate the dry down, followed by powdery vanilla. Primarily, it only amplifies the already powdery iris and gives the background a sweet tinge.

Deeper woods follow. Specifically, patchouli gets more authentic. This means its gains a woodier and slightly earthy quality. Yet, it never becomes dirty.

Vanilla also gains strength, while soft resins soothe all. Both of these tempers not only the patchouli but also provide excellent balance.

The performance is one of the best from Chanel colognes. Yet, its strength limits it to colder temperatures. This is an excellent wear for most occasions but is best reserved for special ones.

#4 – Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme

Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme happens when a 90s sport fragrance is updated. All around an outstanding fragrance, a true steady eddy in my book.

Right off the bat, it is all about freshness. Mint and sage are the most prominent providing a cool, green quality. Citruses are listed in the scent profile. Yet, they aren’t prevalent during the wear.

After a few minutes, the opening picks up a heavier green tone of Cypress and some peppery touches.

When Cypress makes its first appearance, sage fades away. The prominent duo is then mint and Cypress. Both maintain a fresh nature. At this point, musk and tonka bean emerge. They wash over the freshness and give an aromatic sweetness.

Tonka bean begins to take over in the dry down, bringing musk. The remaining nuances of pepper and woody accords linger in the background.

The rest of the wear is smooth and semi-sweet with spicy and woody accents.

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is an all-season and occasion wear. Its scent profile is light enough for a summer gym session but complex enough for winter wear.

As for the uniqueness, some may say, “oh, it’s just another freshie.” This is true, but it is a unique and very well-done freshie.

#3 – Chanel Egoiste Platnium

So you’re looking for a men’s cologne that exudes, “I know what I’m doing with my life.” Chanel Egoiste Platinum is for you; it’s cold as metal and sharp as a blade.

Egoiste platinum is all about its herbal and aromatic nature. The opening is equal parts greens, neroli, and lavender. None of this trio is dominant over the others, but all work in unison to create a fresh soap aroma.

Your typical squeaky clean barbershop vibe.

After 10-15 minutes, the green and herbal nature are amplified. Followed by the addition of spicy and woody nuances. This takes the scent in a drier and more outdoorsy direction. Yet, it’s never overpowering or goes as far as any of the preceding Chanel fragrances.

Vetiver is the dominant woody note. While still retaining a degree of greenness. Touches of cedar and sandalwood linger in the background. Both are supported by woody notes.

Fresh and soapy lavender has carried into the dry down. Accompanied by equal parts of woody notes and a nuance of greenness.

The scent is more mature and refined, best suited for middle-aged men and older. Yet, it’s not so sophisticated that a younger guy can’t wear it. It is extremely likable but not compliment-getting.

You wear this because you know you smell clean and classy, not because you want compliments. It struggles in the winter but does well for all other seasons and occasions.

#2 – Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche

Suppose you want Chanel, but you also want a gourmands’ delight. In that case, Allure Homme Edition Blanche is the scent for you.

Bright and sharp citruses are the most prevalent in the opening. Early on, a strong lemon note takes the lead. Followed shortly after by vanilla, providing a creamy sweetness. This is relatively early in the wear, and this duo is virtually the only notes.

At this point, the scent is exceptionally gourmand. I think of it as sorbet, but others sometimes call it a lemon cake aroma. For a decent chunk of the mid, it’s delicious before leading into the dry down.

Most of the citruses have faded, and woody notes fill the void. The most prominent is creamy sandalwood, bringing vetiver with it. From here, the scent only gets drier. Yet, always retains its freshness.

The dry-down develops early. For the rest of the wear, it is a vanilla and sandalwood duo with light touches of vetiver.

The performance won’t blow you away like the smell. Longevity is average, and projection is decent the first hour, then settles closer to the skin.

This is a perfect summer scent that also does well in the warmer parts of spring and fall.

#1 – Bleu de Chanel EDP

Bleu de Chanel EDP has become the best Bleu de Chanel. It is the perfect mix between youthful and mature.

Right off the top is a sharp blast of citric grapefruit. Followed by a blend of spicy notes. My nose picks up mostly zingy ginger and some pink pepper.

Other spicy notes are in the mix but not strong enough to be identifiable. All of this is supported by a warm amber background.

Citruses still dominate in the mid. At this point, fresh woody notes emerge. The most prominent is cedar, followed by some sandalwood. The bed of amber gets significantly stronger but does not overpower the other notes.

From here on, the scent heads in a warmer and smoother direction.

The citruses are infused with smoky incense. While supported by subtle woody accords, resting on a deep amber base with sweet accents.

The dry-down has less amber. This allows for sandalwood and cedar to shine. They are creamy and clean, with touches of fresh citruses lingering throughout.

The longevity and projection are above-average. Five sprays will last you a workday and then some. No matter the season or occasion, it performs well. It is not unique, but it sure does smell good and work for everything.

My Experience With the Best Chanel Colognes for Men

All of the above information is my experience with the best Chanel Colognes for men. However, I keep it as objective as possible.

This way, you can objectively decide if this is a fragrance you want to purchase or if you’re comparing a few fragrances. Thus, this section is my subjective opinion.

Chanel is a brand similar to Dior, as those two go back and forth for the spotlight. Chanel also has a niche line (Les Exclusifs).

I appreciate this as it allows you to fall in love who more affordable designer fragrances like Bleu de Chanel and Allure Homme. Then move to more sophisticated and unique niche line fragrances.

Chanel colognes are also great for their uniqueness while still remaining popular. Bleu de Chanel, for example, is a very popular blue fragrance, but it doesn’t use ambroxan like all the other blue fragrances.

Instead, it uses Iso E Super, gets the same if not better effect, and stands out.

Examples like this can be seen through most of the best Chanel colognes.

How to Pick the Best Chanel Colognes for Men

If you’re just getting into fragrances, I’d recommend sticking to the designer side of Chanel. This is solely because the designer side is the most mass-appealing and the least expensive.

With this said, look for a scent in YOUR price range. Never pay more for a fragrance than you feel comfortable with. There are plenty of other choices.

If you know your price range, determine when and where you want to wear your new scent. All seasons, warm weather or cold weather? The same can be said for occasions.

This information can be found in each review’s last paragraph or the infographic. Once you know your price range and what you want, picking the best Chanel cologne for you becomes easy.
