What Does Chanel Egoiste Smell Like?
Do you want a scent like no other? The citruses, rose, and cinnamon are loud from the get-go. And I won’t lie. It doesn’t sound that good on paper.
Mandarin orange is the first smell, and the main idea is freshness. Sure, there is some sweetness, but you won’t smell much.
Coating the edges is warm cinnamon spice. And then, in the background, the rose note adds great dark and rich accents.
Now, there is rose, but let me solve a common misconception. Rose is often seen as feminine in male perfumery. Here, it emphasizes a classic and gentleman-like nature.
As the top notes mix and mingle, the base has a proportional tradeoff. Wood notes get stronger, while the top notes get weaker.
For a large part of the wear, the sandalwood will be the star of the show, which is what this scent is known for. There is a tinge of vanilla, and that’s the rest of the wear.

Chanel Egoiste Performance
How Long Does Egoiste Last?
So, what’s the performance like? It’s nothing special and average in almost all categories. On the skin, it lasts 7 hours with a light yet consistent projection.
For at least half of the wear, it pushes out one to two feet before receding. It becomes intimate late in the wear but never a skin scent.
When Should I Wear Egoiste?
As for wearability, the sensual sandalwood makes it best for special occasions like formal events and dates. However, the light projection makes it a decent choice for other situations like the office, dinner, etc…
Egosite EDT is best worn in the fall, winter, and early spring when it’s still cool. The depth of warm spices and woods becomes too much if exposed to too much heat.
Is Chanel Egoiste Likable?
Some of its best categories are uniqueness and likability. Sandalwood is a very common base note. But only a few fragrances have this much dominance with the other interesting mixture at the top.
This is both a unique smelling scent and a unique scent to you, as only a few guys wear this.
Lastly, it’s incredibly likable. Sandalwood, in general, is a very alluring note. On top of this, you have the class and sophistication that Chanel adds to every fragrance.
Is Chanel Egoiste Worth It?
Yes. A 3.4oz bottle is $120. The sandalwood note is one of the best on the market, and the projection suits the situations it’s best for. Conversely, longevity is average, and versatility is slightly limited.
Even with these few minor cons, Egoiste Chanel holds its value. Providing you with an excellent aroma for special occasions.
History
Chanel Egoiste EDT was released in 1990 as the first from the line. It wasn’t as successful as many thought, and years later, two flankers came along. Chanel Egoiste Platinum (the most popular) and Cologne Concentree.
The platinum is detailed further below. The Cologne Concentree version is very similar to the original. Only adding darker and richer accents to the Egoiste DNA.
Like almost all Chanel fragrances, it was perfumed by in-house perfumer Jacques Polge.
FAQs
Is Chanel Egoiste Discontinued?
No. At the time of writing, it was still available on Chanel’s website.
What is Egoiste Chanel For?
Chanel Egoiste is a spring, fall, and winter fragrance for men. It contains a classy and sensual sandalwood aroma that is best for formal occasions and dates.
Pretty much anytime you want to allure attention. It is certainly more sophisticated than many fragrances and smells like a gentleman’s scent.
Chanel Egoiste vs. Platnium
The platinum flanker completely deviates from the Egoiste DNA. The original is all about sandalwood and spices. It has a very warm and sensual aroma.
The Platinum version is all about greens and aromatics. It’s a barbershop fragrance. There are some woody nuances, but not to the degree of the original Egoiste.
As for performance and wearability, they are very similar. The Platinum version just fares better in the heat of summer, never becoming overwhelming like the original.
Chanel Egoiste Clone?
Andres Croxatto Man.
Final Words
Chanel Egoiste is one of the best Sandalwood fragrances for men. The sensual aroma of its dominant Sandalwood note has a unique way of attracting attention while not shouting for it.
This is interesting for both collectors and Chanel, as it’s halfway between niche and designer. But… with a designer price tag.
