Pour Monsieur Eau de Parfum.
It is one of Chanel’s better old-school and masculine fragrances. I’ve tested it a few times and I am pleasantly surprised with the results I have received.
In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and anything else you need to know.

What Does Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP Smell Like?
Do you want to smell like old money? Right off the bat, it is sharp and fresh lemon. It is not like a lemonade or the bitterness of lemon juice. It’s the perfect quality in between.
Playing second fiddle in the background is a classy lavender. In terms of old-school, this is the part that knocks the ball out of the park.
After the first few minutes, a spicy nutmeg comes through. It is welcoming but makes things interesting rather than changing the scent. You’ll smell these three for hours.
Once in the base, it is slightly green but dark. While vanilla is the last missing smell. It adds the final rich touch.
You’ll smell a dry, fresh, classic barbershop cologne for the rest of the wear.
Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP notes:
- Lemon
- Vanilla
- Nutmeg
- Lavender
- Vetiver
Pour Monsieur EDP Performance
How Long Does Pour Monsieur EDP Last?
Pour Monsieur EDP lasts seven to eight hours on the skin with moderate and consistent projection. The first two hours, it pushes out an arm’s length, then recedes to a light but present ambiance for the rest of the wear.
This performance is with three sprays.
When Should I Wear Pour Monsieur EDP?
This is all-season wear except for the coldest days of winter. The colder it gets, the more you have to apply. However, in the depths of winter, it only lasts a few hours. You’ll get 10-11 months of wear in a four-season climate.
As for occasions, it is all. This is a unique fragrance with a unique blend of notes. But deep down, this is a wearable barbershop fragrance.
This versatility with a unique twist is one of my favorite aspects of the fragrance.
Is Pour Monsieur EDP Likable?
Lastly, mass appeal and likability are slightly above-average. This isn’t an attention magnet, but it is likable, and this is for the reasons above. Nothing about the scent comes off as decisive; it’s subtle, sophisticated, and masculine.
Is Chanel Pour Monsieur Discontinued?
The EDP version in this article is not discontinued. It is still available on Chanel’s official website.
However, the original EDT version is no longer available. It is still available on Amazon and discounters. Yet, the price is increasing. Eventually, it will be unable to buy other than on eBay.
How Do The People Rate Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP?
Don’t just trust me; what do the masses think? This information is pulled from fragrantica.com. Providing a general estimate of what others think.
At the time of writing (March 2024), Pour Monsieur EDP has 667 votes with a rating of 4.38 stars out of 5. Based on the cost-for-value metric, it is rated as neutral.
Here are the top three pros and cons:
Pros
- Beautiful blend of citrus, vanilla, nutmeg, lavender, and nutmeg.
- Clean and creamy citrus scent.
- Rich and smooth fragrance
Cons
- Citrus chypre scent may not appeal to everyone.
- It may be perceived as old-fashioned or outdated by some.
- Limited availability as previous versions have been discontinued.
Note: All cons had more downvotes than upvotes.
Final Words
Pour Monsieur EDP comes from a long line. The preceding fragrance Pour Monsieur Concentrate is similar but has slightly more earthy tinges.
However, the EDP (one reviewed in this article) is the best.
The final burning question is, is Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP worth it?
Yes, it has the performance and quality. But I love its uniqueness most. Almost all barbershop colognes are aromatic and woody, and the better ones use higher-quality notes. In short, they all smell the same.
However, Pour Monsieur is a barbershop cologne with prominent aromatic and spice accords, but… it mixes in an alluring blend of vanilla that doesn’t take away from the masculine and clean nature but gives a charming touch.
Lastly, you may hear that this is a mature fragrance. There’s no denying it. But I still find it wearable as a young man in his 20s. Will it smell better on an older gentleman? Probably. But still wearable.
Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP is an excellent cologne and a highly complimented one. Yet, don’t just limit yourself to Pour Monsieur EDP. Check out the best Chanel colognes for men.
