Drakkar Noir EDT Full Review – Everything You Need To Know

Drakkar Noir EDT.

A classic and masculine fragrance for an affordable price.

Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche was released in 1982 and is all about old-school soapiness and fresh aromatics. The performance is average, but this is an excellent beginner’s or collector’s fragrance.

In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Drakkar Noir EDT Smell Like?

The opening starts with oak moss and lavender notes leading the opening. They are rather dry and smooth but at least jump right into their masculine nature.

In the background is a leathery depth with citric bergamot nuances dancing on the top and breaking up the intensity of the opening. The bergamot shines for a few minutes, but as quick as it was there, it’s gone.

For the next 45 minutes, it is a very linear green scent with all accords from before but with an addition of a crisp, awakening mint. It really helps liven up the entire fragrance.

The fun only begins in the dry-down. A tidal wave of aromatics rushes in. It is a clash of notes, but they are always delightful.

Mostly, the aromatics are green, woody, and forest-like. The dry-down is developed after a few hours. The woody notes get darker and add more forest-like qualities.

Performance

Drakkar Noir EDT lasts 6 hours on the skin with moderate projection. It pushes out up to three feet the first few hours before receding to the skin. It’s never been too overpowering or a skin scent every time I’ve worn it. The perfect gentlemanly projection.

It wears best in the transitionary time of the year, spring and fall. But it can still be worn in winter with heavier sprays and in the summer with fewer sprays.

It’s all-occasion wear. The projection is light enough for office and/or school wear and sophisticated enough for dates and formal occasions.

The mass appeal of Drakkar Noir is slightly above average but not anything like a blue fragrance.

The classic, soapy lavender in the opening can come across as “metallic shaving cream.” This is the only part that may be off-putting. Other than this aspect, it’s a fresh and aromatic fragrance that’s hard not to like.

Drakkar Noir History

One of the oldest fragrances on the market that is still popular and in production. The initial release was in 1982 and has stayed true to its DNA since. It is not one of a kind, as it has two flankers: Drakkar Essence and Drakkar Intense.

Yes, it has stood the test of time and is still included in fragrance review lists from reviewers all over. When recommending beginner fragrances, it is one of the best ones. Thus, why it’s still popular.

As an Amazon Associate, I get an estimate of how many products are sold for a listing. Drakkar Noir EDT routinely has 3,000+ units per month sold. This is a lot compared to many other men’s colognes.
