Select.
An affordable Creed Aventus clone.
Mercedes-Benz Select was released in 2018. It is based on fruits, musk, and amber. It lasts four hours on the skin with light projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Mercedes-Benz Select Smell Like?
Black currant is by far the most prominent in the opening. Pineapple-like bergamot lingers in the background. You’ll never smell the juicy pineapple nature that is so intense in Aventus. Yet, you will get the sweet and fruity nature.
I could honestly exclude Bergamot from this review. It is fleeting and always drowned out by the intense fruits.
The top notes weaken within a few minutes. A decent dose of ambroxan and smoky woods fill the void. It is far from Aventus’ smoky birch, but it is still a masculine depth. Does this make the scent worse? No. This small change makes the scent more likable.
Warm ambroxan leads the dry-down with musk nuances. It is not the signature smoky birch and leather base in Aventus but masculine. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear with fresh accents.

Performance
Mercedes-Benz Select lasts four hours on the skin with light projection. The projection is intimate from the start and becomes a skin scent soon into the wear. I get this performance with five sprays.
This is exclusively spring, summer, and early fall wear. The fragrance is mainly based on the fruity opening, and it needs heat to help it develop and project. If you douse yourself in this, it will work in the winter too. But you’ll still have to deal with poor longevity and projection.
As for occasions, it is all. A great office fragrance as it is so subtle.
Lastly, mass appeal and likability are above average. More than most other Aventus clones, this heavily emphasizes the fruity sweetness in the opening. When you first apply, you’ll really grab attention. The ambroxan in the base is also very enjoyable and “complimentable,” but it’s a very subtle fragrance at that point.
Final Words
The final burning question is, is Mercedes-Benz Select worth it? No. It has a heavier fruity sweetness in the opening that is more appealing than many other Aventus clones. But the performance is so poor it’s hard to experience. Yes, this is an affordable fragrance, but other Aventus clones have better performance at the same price point.
