Quick Summary

  • The scent is based around florals and woods.
  • It is affordable.
  • There are better Nautica choices.
  • It is exclusively for warm weather wear.
  • The performance is below average.

What Does Nautica Blue Smell Like?

Upon the first spray, a lot is going on. I get the freshness of citric bergamot and the fruity peach’s sweetness. Both resting on a clean and floral bed of water lilies and jasmine.

Though the brand Nautica is known for having aquatic-based fragrances. I barely catch wafts of aquatics for the entire wear.

After the first few minutes, the scent gets significantly more synthetic. The bergamot from before pushes the fruits to the side and takes their place. While the florals remain dominant, clean, and in the background.

The citruses and fruits have dissipated half an hour into the wear. The warm woods from the base have taken their place and added an alluring and masculine charm to the florals. Since the opening, the florals have remained clean and powdery.

The rest of the wear is simple. Fresh florals with prominent warm cedar and sandalwood.

Performance

Performance isn’t Nautica Blue’s strong suit. On the skin, it lasts 4 – 5 hours with light to intimate projection. The first hour it pushes out and makes your presence known if someone is close enough. Yet, after this period, they have to hug you to smell you.

The wearability and versatility aren’t that great, either. With the lightness of it, it’s exclusively spring and summer. As for occasions, all but special occasions like formal events and dates. It doesn’t quite pop off the skin like a special occasion fragrance.

Nautica Blue is best worn when you want to jump out of the shower and have a good ambiance rather than smelling like nothing. This relates to its likability.

It’s easy to wear in the warmer months and has a gentle and refreshing aroma. It will be inviting, but this isn’t the best choice if you’re looking to garner significant attention.

Is Nautica Blue EDT Worth it?

Short Answer, no. Why? Because Nautica Voyage is better and does the same job for the same price. The smell of Nautica Blue is neither good nor bad, but the performance is below average with average likability. The only thing Nautica Blue has going for it is the price.

This would be a decent scent if you were trying to build a collection of only $20 fragrances. Yet, this isn’t necessary for anyone looking for their first fragrance or trying to grow a quality collection.

History

Nautica is an American apparel brand known for its oceanic theme. They have a small collection of fragrances. The most notable is Nautica Voyage. Which I’m almost certain many of you have heard of.

Nautica Blue was released in 2005, perfumed by Maurice Roucel. It is one of a kind, and there are no other Nautica Blue flankers.

Five sprays. It is a light fragrance but can become very dense if applied too heavily.

I’m not aware of any fragrances that are dupes of Nautica Blue.

Final Words

Nautica Blue EDT is a popular fragrance among men. For the right person and the right situation, it may serve someone well. However, for the average guy, your money is better spent elsewhere.

There’s nothing wrong with starting with an affordable fragrance like many of us did. Yet, if you want the best bang for your buck, Nautica Voyage is a better choice. The performance is better; it’s less synthetic and slightly more wearable.

If you try Nautica Blue EDT, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
