What Does Parfums de Marly Oajan Smell Like?
A blend of tonka bean, cinnamon, and benzoin is most prominent from the opening. In a few minutes, a stronger vanilla note becomes present. Until then, tonka bean presents the vanillic-like accord.
The real stars in the opening are the other two. Cinnamon enhances benzoin, and the duo has a rich, dark sweetness with spicy nuances. Yet, interestingly enough, the aroma is still fresh, which I find particularly enjoyable in a heavier scent.
Five minutes in, the vanilla and honey come through. This thick, sweet, and creamy pairing blends perfectly with cinnamon.
The sweetness starts to drown out the spice at this point. It takes a toll on the spices, but they remain present. A large portion of the wear, this is all I smell.
After a while, the dry-down starts to develop, and it is all about the resinous finish. It has an ambery feel and mixes with the lingering deep vanilla and warm spices.
There is some sweetness, but it is more about the depth and “darkness.”

Oajan Performance
The performance is as good as the smell. Oajan lasts 12+ hours on the skin with multiple feet projection for hours. Two sprays fill your scent bubble and linger on your skin until the next day’s shower.
As for seasons and occasions, this is exclusively fall and winter wear. The sweetness and spice of the notes become too overpowering when heat is applied.
And occasions are all. You’ll have to be careful in the office as in close-quarter settings; it will quickly overwhelm those around you if not moderated.
Lastly, the mass appeal and likability are excellent. Oajan can become cloying and overpowering if applied in the wrong situation.
However, that doesn’t take away from the quality and alluring aroma. No note is off-putting; all are sweet and blended.
Parfums de Marly Oajan Clones
Based on Fragranctica, the most similar fragrance is Hermes Heressence Ambre Narguile. I don’t have experience with the fragrance, but based on the prominent accords.
It focuses more on spices, less on amber, and has a prevalent boozy rum note.
Another similar fragrance that is instead a competitor is By Kilian Angels Share. Both have sweet vanilla and spices. Yet, the prominent amber note in Oajan is replaced by a prominent woody note in Angels Share.
Final Words
Parfums de Marly Oajan is the best winter fragrances for men for a reason: it is quality, alluring, and an excellent performer. The final burning question is, is Parfums de Marly Oajan worth it?
Yes, If I only needed one winter fragrance, this would be one of my top choices. By Kilian Angels Share is by far the more popular choice.
However, this could give you the same effect with a more unique aroma.
