Polo Blue EDT.
One of Ralph Lauren’s best aquatic colognes.
Ralph Lauren Polo Blue EDT was released in 2003. It is based on ozonic, aquatic, and subtle aromatic accords. It lasts five to six hours on the skin with light projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Ralph Lauren Polo Blue EDT Smell Like?
Upon the first spray is a mix of cucumber, melon, and subtle citric orange. There is a degree of sweetness, but it smells diluted. The cucumber note is so fresh and “watery” that it tones down the sweetness to a touch of charm. Does the cucumber note make the opening green? No.
The main idea in the opening is fresh and clean. Within a few minutes comes the aquatic backbone with herbal spice accents. Heading into the mid, it smells like soap with a touch of refreshing pepper.
After the first 15-20 minutes, the melon comes out to play more. It is fruity and playful but nothing ultra-interesting. An hour into the wear, the aquatic backbone picks up musky notes. The soapy aroma turns into clean sheets. As the dry-down finishes, a woody depth wafts in.
The rest of the wear is aquatic musk, lingering freshness, and subtle woody depth.

Performance
Polo Blue lasts five to six hours on the skin with light projection. The first hour and a half, when the citruses are strongest, it pushes out a couple of feet. After this period, it recedes to a light ambiance for the rest of the wear.
The sillage doesn’t fair better. This is a light fragrance, so the more you move around, it doesn’t project or smell any better. This performance is with five sprays. Fortunately, you can accidentally go heavy on the trigger without worrying about it being overpowering. A light fragrance but is not weak.
This is exclusively spring and summer wear. It doesn’t have the depth for the colder temperature nor fit that time of the year, as we don’t stereotypically think of aquatics in the winter. And occasions, it is casual wear. There’s nothing about the scent that makes it special.
Lastly, mass appeal and likability are above average. This might not be a versatile fragrance, but at least it’s likable. No note comes off as off-putting.
Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Clones
There are multiple similar fragrances to Polo Blue. The most similar is its flanker, the EDP version. Virtually the same scent, with a heavy emphasis on freshness and aromatics.
Outside of the line, Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua for Men is the most similar fragrance. It has the same prominent aromatic and fresh accords but with a heavier wood base.
Final Words
Is Ralph Lauren Polo Blue EDT worth it? No. This is an enjoyable fragrance, but it’s not worth the price. Many other fresh fragrances are on the market with a heavy emphasis on freshness for the same or less price. A great example is Missoni Wave or Versace Pour Homme.
