How Does Xerjoff Describe it?

Here is the product description, “A woody aromatic character defines the Nio Xerjoff perfume, which takes its name from a meteorite that showered over Japan in the late 19th century.

Created by Xerjoff’s master perfumers, this aromatic infusion of Mediterranean citrus and spice is an olfactory experience to behold. With top notes of bergamot, rose pepper, and nutmeg, it leads to an earthy heart of jasmine and green leaves.

Ancient cedar wood, guaiac wood, and amber create a sweet and sensual base accord. Xerjoff Nio is enthroned in a luxurious case embedded with a certified fragment of the meteorite.”

What Does Xerjoff Nio Smell Like?

The opening is ultra-fresh and vibrant, with equal parts green and citrus notes. It is a unique smell as the intensity of the bergamot grabs attention and jumps off the skin. The green notes then temper it, creating a balanced blend.

The mid fully develops after about an hour of wear. The green notes have slightly weakened, while the citrus notes have stayed consistent. A slightly sweet and fruity jasmine note adds white floral nuances.

This trio still emphasizes freshness. Yet, at this point, it is more charming than vibrant.

Over time these florals become warmer and creamier. The top notes fade into the background. Giving way to a woody cedar note. It adds a bit of depth and emphasizes the creaminess of jasmine.

The rest of the wear is a delicate combination of warm cedar and jasmine. While green and citrus nuances linger in the background.

This is undoubtedly a simple and linear scent. Yet, a classy and sophisticated one.

Nio Performance

The performance is decent, lasting 7 hours on the skin. The first 1-2 hours of the projection are great. It pushes out multiple feet. After this period, it recedes closer to the skin, never becoming a skin scent.

It is a lighter scent that doesn’t create a long trail behind you but enough to be smelled for the first few hours.

Nio has a unique opening but slowly becomes more generic. It is different for florals to be mixed with wood. However, the same style of cedar can be found in Prada L’Homme’s dry-down.

Like all Xerjoffs, the quality of notes sets it apart.

When can you wear Nio? It is a lighter fragrance, so it is best for spring and summer and can be worn for all occasions. It’s perfect in the office as it’s light and not overwhelming. Yet, it also works for a special event or date because of its quality.

But, to make note, it’s not a superstar in either of these categories. Instead, it’s a jack of all trades but a master of none.

Is Xerjoff Nio Worth It?

A 50mL bottle costs $250. The smell is ultra-high quality and has a unique and attention-grabbing aroma. It is all-occasion versatile and easy to wear in the warmer months.

Lastly, the performance is slightly above-average but nothing crazy.

Considering this information Xerjoff Nio is worth it but not a must-have. It is slightly more pricey than other niche fragrances. Ex: Parfums de Marly Greenley provides a similar aroma, but you can get a 125mL bottle for the same price.

So, if you’re looking for a warm-weather fragrance, definitely consider Nio. Just know that there are other options.

Presentation

The current sample I am reviewing was bought from Xerjoff’s official website. It was included in their sample kit. It is one of four 2mL bottles that they sent. The total cost for the sample box was about $37 with shipping.

Shown below is a box and bottle from Xerjoff’s website. The bottle is clear glass, and you can see the color of the juice with the logo on the front. The box is purple with the logo on top and ingredients on the bottom.

The batch code will be on the bottom of both the box and bottle.

History

From Xerjoff, “Founded in 2006, the Xerjoff brand was launched by Sergio Momo with the aim of blending the most luxurious materials to complement the most affluent global lifestyles through the combination of old-world craftsmanship, rare raw materials, and a contemporary artistic sensibility.”

Nio was released in 2009. Designed to resemble a stroll through the southern Italian countryside. It is one of a kind for the brand, as Nio has no flankers.

My Experience with Xerjoff Nio

All of the above information is my experience with Xerjoff Nio.

However, I keep it as objective as possible. This way, you can objectively decide if this is a fragrance you want to purchase or if you’re comparing a few fragrances. Thus, this section is my subjective opinion.

The quality is out of this world, as with any Xerjoff. If you don’t enjoy the bitterness of authentic bergamot, you won’t enjoy the opening.

Before I ever tried Nio, I watched and read a few reviews and was sold the idea that this is exclusively a summer scent.

Yet, it’s more versatile for me. The greenness throughout the scent fits the spring and still performs well in the cooler spring temperatures.

Other than this warning and misconception, I really enjoy Nio.

Final Words

There is no denying that Xerjoff Nio is one of the highest-quality citrus fragrances. It also has one of the best openings. Yet, it’s still not so good enough to be a must-have.

Xerjoff sells a 3-pack of 15mL’s, which costs about $85 per bottle. If you purchase a bottle, this is the best way to go. If you’re still in doubt, they also offer a variety of sample kits.
