Best Bleu de Chanel

Bleu de Chanel PARFUM vs. EDP vs. EDT [Full Reviews + How They Compare]

Bleu de Chanel.

The line that forever changed blue fragrances.

Bleu de Chanel is one of the most popular men’s fragrance lines. All of their scents are based on citric openings and woody bases. On top of this, they all have outstanding versatility and likability.

In this review, I will describe all three and help you decide which is best for you.

What Does Bleu de Chanel EDT Smell Like?

Bleu de Chanel EDT opens with the signature Chanel Grapefruit followed by a touch of lemon. The dominance of both is short-lived. The grapefruit note will linger for the rest of the wear, but the lemon note will dissipate.

After a few minutes, you’ll smell an invigorating mixture of warm spices. Mint is the most prominent. It mainly comes across as aromatic but also has a spicy touch. Ginger and Pink Pepper are in the background amplifying the spicy nature.

Subtle, woody base notes creep in a couple of hours into the wear. While the spicy mint and ginger mix and mingle, creating an alluring aroma. The woody aroma comes from an interesting synthetic note Iso E Super. It mostly has woody and musky accents.

Dominant warm woods lead the dry-down. Lingering citruses and spices are in the base, but it’s all about the cedar, sandalwood, and Iso E Super mixture for the rest of the wear.

Bleu de Chanel EDT Performance

Bleu de Chanel EDT lasts seven hours on the skin with moderate to light projection. In the first two hours, it pushes out two to three feet. After this period, it recedes closer to a light ambiance for the rest of the wear. The sillage is decent. You’ll leave an average scent trail as you move around. This performance is with four sprays.

This is all-season and occasion wearable. It’s a true blue fragrance. It will never overwhelm with its moderate projection. And it’s also extremely sophisticated, enough to make you stand out on a formal occasion.

The mass appeal and likability are outstanding. Again it’s a blue fragrance that will garner compliments and attention. However, with this popularity comes a lack of uniqueness. It won’t be unique to you. But when this was first released, it can be argued to have started the blue fragrance genre.

What Does Bleu de Chanel EDP Smell Like?

This smells fresh, invigorating, and curiosity-invoking.

The first spray is a blast of the most authentic citrus you’ll ever smell. If you’ve ever smelt a freshly juiced grapefruit, this is the exact smell you’ll get.

The citrus is wrapped in a blanket of green and spicy mint. It’s refreshing and energizing and the fragrance’s best part. If you get a compliment, it will be because of the mint.

In the background is a dark, mysterious wood smell surrounded by the most alluring smoky edges. It doesn’t smell like a fire; rather, it gives the scent a dark and alluring vibe.

In the end, this smells like a man of confidence and seduction.

Bleu de Chanel EDP Performance

Bleu de Chanel EDP typically lasts seven hours with a scent bubble that, on average, pushes out an elbow’s length. When you walk around, this leaves a nice trail behind you. Wearing BDC EDP, I tend to put 2 – 3 sprays, no more than 5 sprays, on the coldest days of the year.

Bleu de Chanel EDP is not a fragrance that shouts for attention (use Dior Sauvage for that.) This scent is discovered and not announced, best fitting more of a quiet guy or a “killer” on a date.

Now, where should you wear Bleu de Chanel EDP? Everywhere and anywhere – it is an extremely versatile fragrance. It can be a signature scent that works great in every season and for any occasion.

I mentioned that it struggles in the winter, but applying one more spray can solve the problem.

This can shine as well on a date as it can in the office/lecture hall.

  • Popular fragrance, widely available.

CONS

*No well-rated cons*

What Does Bleu de Chanel Parfum Smell Like?

The opening of Parfum is an energizing blast of lemon zest. It dominates the opening and carries splashes of lavender. Nuances of other accords and lavender amplify the freshness but are too well blended to pick out. The secondary notes are hard to identify because the notes are so well-blended.

30 minutes into the wear, Parfum transitions to a woodier base with dissipating citrus accords. The woody accents were always present but only got stronger over time. As the mid matures, Parfum becomes warmer and sweeter.

After an hour or two, the dominant sandalwood, cedar, and Iso E Super notes take over. Until this point, they were just “woody,” but now each note is identifiable. They blend to project a warm and rich woody depth. The citruses are almost entirely gone but have left their fresh accents to liven up the woody accord.

Bleu de Chanel Parfum is not necessarily a simple scent but one hard to pick apart. The quality of the blend is just as good in the opening as the base. However, the main idea here is dominant warm woods with alluring freshness and aromatics.

Bleu de Chanel Parfum notes:

TOP NOTES

  • Lemon Zest
  • Bergamot
  • Mint
  • Artemisia

MID NOTES

  • Lavender
  • Pineapple
  • Geranium
  • Green Notes

BASE NOTES

  • Sandalwood
  • Cedar
  • Amberwood
  • Iso E Super
  • Tonka Bean

Bleu de Chanel Parfum Performance

Bleu de Chanel Parfum lasts 10 – 12 hours on the skin with moderate projection. The first one to two hours pushes out two to three feet. The projection is intense and heavier than the other Bleu de Chanel concentrations.

BDC Parfum allows you to leave a long scent trail as you move around. I get this performance with three to four sprays.

As for wearability, everything, and anything, no matter the season or occasion, this is an easy grab, spray, and go. In the winter, you may have to apply one more spray, but that’s the extent its versatility lack.

This stellar versatility plays into its role as a blue fragrance. It can be argued that Bleu de Chanel started the blue fragrance genre. If you’re unfamiliar with blue fragrances, they are men’s colognes that are ultra-versatile, mass-appealing, and highly complimented. Great starter fragrances.

So, with that said, Bleu de Chanel won’t be unique to you. But it is a semi-unique scent when it was first launched and even to this day. Only dupes have come relatively close.

My blue fragrance spiel hinted at Bleu de Chanel’s ultra-likability. In a close-quarter setting, the projection is pleasant, and the smell is so alluring people will gravitate toward you. And compliments, this is one of the best fragrances for them. Hence, why it made my most complimented fragrances list. If none, you’ll at least get happy smiles :-).

How do the Bleu de Chanel EDT, EDP & Parfum Versions Compare?

The EDT version and EDP are very similar fragrances. The EDT is louder and aggressive with the spicy notes. Still well-blended but not as good as the EDP version. The EDT version also has the worst Bleu de Chanel line performance.

Besides these few things, the EDP is more mature with better performance.

The Parfum version differs the most from Bleu de Chanel DNA. Wood dominates the entire wear rather than citrus in the opening and wood in the base. It is the most mature, best performer, and most versatile.

All three concentrations have the same amazing quality, but only increase performance as the concentration increases.

Bleu de Chanel EDT vs. EDP vs. Parfum

Presentation

The EDP bottle I am reviewing is 50mL, bought from Chanel’s official website. The bottle is dark blue with the name on the front. The bottle is transparent but hard to see.

The cap is metal and magnetic, with the Chanel logo on the top. It is quite secure, but I wouldn’t recommend lifting it by the cap.

The box is blue/black with the Chanel name and logo on the top and front. The batch code will be on the back of the bottle and the bottom of the box. Mine is 8502.

The EDT version will look the same as the EDP, but say “Eau de Toilette.” The Parfum version will look the same, but the writing will be in gold rather than white.

FAQs

What Age Range is Bleu de Chanel for?

Bleu de Chanel for men has a wide age range. It will smell just as good on a man in his early 20s as on a man in his mid-30s.

If you’re older, I wouldn’t let this age range deter you from potentially buying Bleu de Chanel.

On my YouTube channel, I posted something to this effect. A man mentioned that he was 52 and still felt like it was mature enough for him.

Is Bleu de Chanel for Men?

Yes, all Bleu de Chanel’s are men’s colognes. This is mainly from the deeper and darker base notes. If you’re a woman looking for Chanel, there are great fragrances like Chanel No. 5 and Coco Mademoiselle.

Is Bleu de Chanel Popular?

It’s versatile, great price for value, and smells fantastic (including the compliments that it attracts).

I know from experience that this was everything I wanted. However, I didn’t buy it because I thought I’d blend in with all the other guys. But in college, I had only ever smelled this on another guy once!

Is Bleu de Chanel Worth it?

Yes. This is one fragrance I wish I had bought sooner. On Chanel’s Official website, a 100mL bottle costs $135 – $165. It may seem expensive, but considering everything you get, it’s a great return on investment.

Realistically, this bottle will last about a year. Thus, would pay $0.40 a day to feel more confident. I know I’ll take that trade any day.

What Are Similar Fragrances to Bleu de Chanel?

Armaf Club de Nuit Blue Iconic is the best dupe outside the Bleu de Chanel line.

The other concentrations of EDT and Parfum share the same DNA but differ slightly in how they present it. The EDT version has worse performance and has more aggressive spice tones. It is the most “immature” version of the line.

The Parfum version is deeper, darker, and smoother. In turn, it is the most mature of the line.

If you want to look at other concentrations besides the EDP, I recommend checking out the Parfum version before the EDT version.

Lastly, if you want a fragrance that provides a similar effect to BDC, I suggest Dior Sauvage EDP and YSL Y EDP. All aroma’s are vastly different. Yet, all are incredibly versatile and highly complimentable, known as blue fragrances.

Final Words

There’s a reason the Bleu de Chanel line is one of the best in the entire fragrance market. My favorite aspect about them is that they’re so well-blended that no note jumps out or trumps others.

I recommend having a Bleu de Chanel fragrance in your collection.

After you try a Bleu de Chanel fragrance. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
