#5 – Legend Spirit

The prominent citrus duo of grapefruit and bergamot lead the opening. Cardamom spice and an aquatic background follow closely behind. The citruses are bright and dominate at first. But there is still a lot of spicy warm cardamom.

After about 10 minutes, cardamom will blow the citruses away. For the rest of the wear, it makes the scent exceptionally dry.

The scent settles down at this point and comes into its deeper and warmer notes. Mainly pink pepper and cardamom, but the woods and musk from the base appear.

After a while, Legend Spirit comes into its base. The two most prominent notes are aromatic oak moss and cardamom. Aquatic musk lingers in the background. The rest of the wear is predominantly this trio. However, at times I catch fleeting wafts of lavender and fresh spice.

Legend Spirit lasts seven hours on the skin with moderate projection. In the first hours, it pushes out a couple of feet, but as it dries down, the scent recedes. This is spring and summer wear for all occasions.

#4 – Individuel

The opening begins with a combination of Juniper, Raspberry, Bergamot, and Pineapple. A unique and refreshing mixture. As you can imagine, this is exceptionally sweet and fruity. Yet, the sweetness thankfully never becomes syrupy and thus never overwhelming.

Into the mid, calming lavender and cinnamon spice add to the fruity top notes. They help temper the strength and sweetness while giving Individuel an additional faucet. This spice nature starts to make this a clone of Original Santal.

For a large portion of the mid and into the base, it’s all about sweet fruits and cinnamon spice. The scent tree has a few other spice notes, but cinnamon is the most prevalent. The overarching emphasis is warmth.

The dry down is still clean and fresh. A woody depth develops, bringing creamy vanilla with it. The sweetness of raspberry gets paired with vanilla, and the two sit atop a spicy sandalwood backbone for the rest of the wear.

Individuel lasts six hours on the skin with light projection. The first two hours, pushes out two to three feet. After this period, it is a skin scent for the rest of the wear. This is all-season wear except for the hottest summer days, as it gets too cloying. As for occasions, it is all.

#3 – Starwalker

The opening is citrus dominated with an orange and bergamot combination. They are present but never too intense or overwhelming. They are subdued by a woody and floral depth. The orange is the best citrus. It gives a slight juiciness and a subtle sweetness but always retains the freshness.

The wood notes come out to play in the mid. It is a unique bamboo note. The smell is not too special, but it sticks out amongst almost all the woody notes I’ve smelt. In the background is a slight addition of nutmeg and ginger spice.

The dry down smoothes out. It is light, clean, and fresh. A creamy sandalwood and warm cedar note came through after a few hours and paired well with the bamboo. A decent dose of musk also made its way in, filling the void of the fading citruses.

The sandalwood doesn’t stick around for long. The rest of the wear is musky bamboo, warm cedar, and light citruses.

This lasts four to five hours on the skin with above-average projection. The first two hours, it pushes out three to four feet. After this period, it recedes to a two-foot ambiance for the rest of the wear. This is spring and summer wear for all occasions.

#2 – Legend EDP

Violet leaf is the focus of the opening. It is paired with equal parts citric bergamot and a leathery depth. The overarching emphasis is fresh and green. After a few minutes, a more prevalent green note of oakmoss from the base comes through. It remains clean and sits in the background with leather.

Bergamot fades in the mid; I catch wafts of floral jasmine in the background. They must have always been there, giving the fragrance cleanliness. However, the intensity of the opening masked them. Violet leaf is still at the forefront with woods, moss, and leather supporting.

The dry-down is drastically simpler. A mossy violet leaf with leather sits atop a wood backbone. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

This lasts eight to nine hours on the skin with moderate projection. In the first few hours, it pushes out an arm’s length, then recedes but never becomes a skin scent. This is all-season and occasion wear.

#1 – Explorer

Upon the first spray is a blast of semi-sweet, fruity bergamot. After about 5 minutes, the scent starts to smell more like Aventus. Bergamot fades, and a heavy dose of ambroxan and woody notes peak through.

Ambroxan adds a noticeably synthetic smell, but both notes emphasize a woody accord. Explorer is a straightforward scent. Any other notes in the fragrance only amplify the fruity opening or woody dry down.

Does Mont Blanc Explorer’s scent profile smell like Creed Aventus? It has the bare bones of it. Both have a fruity opening, but Aventus is known for its juicy, tangy pineapple opening. As for the dry down, Explorer lacks the signature smoky birch. So, yes, similar scent DNA, but 9 times out 10, people can tell the difference.

This lasts seven hours on the skin, with average projection. It pushes out two to three feet for the first two hours. After this period, it becomes a skin scent. This is all-season and occasion wearable.

Final Words

Mont Blanc is one of the most popular fragrance lines among men, and rightfully so. Many of these are worth the full price on the Mont Blanc website, and all others are worth the discounted price – still buy all on discounters. I enjoy having Mont Blanc colognes in my collection.
