How Does Chanel Describe it?

Here is the product description “Unexpected and undeniably bold. Fresh, clean, and profoundly sensual, the woody, aromatic fragrance reveals the spirit of a man who chooses his own destiny with independence and determination—a man who defies convention.

The fragrance features a fresh citrus accord followed by ambery cedar. Woody notes are amplified by tonka bean and vanilla for heightened sensuality. New Caledonian sandalwood unfolds at the base for greater depth, leaving a captivating trail.”

What Does Bleu de Chanel EDP Smell Like?

This smells fresh, invigorating, and curiosity-invoking.

The first spray is a blast of the most authentic citrus you’ll ever smell. If you’ve ever smelt a freshly juiced grapefruit, this is the exact smell you’ll get.

The citrus is wrapped in a blanket of green and spicy mint. It’s refreshing and energizing and the fragrance’s best part. If you get a compliment, it will be because of the mint.

In the background is a dark, mysterious wood smell surrounded by the most alluring smoky edges. It doesn’t smell like a fire; rather, it gives the scent a dark and alluring vibe.

In the end, this smells like a man of confidence and seduction.

Bleu de Chanel EDP Performance

How Long Does Bleu de Chanel EDP Last?

This has above-average performance but won’t last the entire day; it’s only enough to get you through a workday.

Seven hours is typical with a scent bubble that, on average, pushes out an elbow’s length. When you walk around, this leaves a nice trail behind you.

Bleu de Chanel EDP is not a fragrance that shouts for attention (use Dior Sauvage for that.) This scent is discovered and not announced, best fitting more of a quiet guy or a “killer” on a date.

Where Should I Wear Bleu de Chanel EDP?

If you only need or want one fragrance, this is one of the best first fragrances for you. Let alone everything else, this is extremely versatile.

It can be a signature scent because it will work great in every season or occasion.

I mentioned that it struggles in the winter, but applying one more spray can solve the problem.

This can shine as well on a date as it can in the office/lecture hall.

Is Bleu de Chanel EDP Popular?

It’s versatile, great price for value, and smells fantastic (including the compliments that it attracts).

I know from experience this was everything I wanted. However, I didn’t buy it because I thought I’d blend in with all the other guys.

I am on a college campus every day, and I have only ever smelled this on another guy once! It’s not to see that it won’t be the first time it’s smelt like a niche fragrance. Yet, you won’t be a dime a dozen.

Is Bleu de Chanel EDP Worth it?

Yes. This is one fragrance I wish I would have bought sooner. On Chanel’s Official website, a 100mL bottle costs $145. It may seem expensive, but considering everything you get, it’s a great return on investment.

Realistically, this bottle will last about a year. Thus, would pay $0.40 a day to feel more confident. I know I’ll take that trade any day.

How do The People Rate Bleu de Chanel EDP?

Don’t just trust me; what do the masses think? This information is pulled from fragrantica.com. Providing a general estimate of what others think.

At the time of writing (January 2024), Bleu de Chanel EDP has 11,558 votes with a rating of 4.41 stars out of 5. Based on the cost-for-value metric, it is rated as neutral to slightly overpriced.

Here are the top three pros and cons:

PROS

  • Superb for cold and warm weather, day or night, work or play.
  • Great fragrance for those not fully into fragrances and want something versatile.
  • Popular fragrance, widely available.

CONS

  • Not everyone can smell the masterpiece in Bleu de Chanel.
  • Unappealing and generic fragrance for some people.
  • Does not live up to expectations.

Presentation

The current bottle I am reviewing is 50mL, bought from Chanel’s official website. The bottle is dark blue with the name on the front. The bottle is transparent but hard to see.

The cap is metal and magnetic, with the Chanel logo on the top. It is quite secure, but I wouldn’t recommend lifting it by the cap.

The box is blue/black with the Chanel name and logo on the top and front. The batch code will be on the back of the bottle and the bottom of the box. Mine is 8502.

History

Bleu de Chanel EDT came out in 2010 as a Men’s cologne. It was created by Jacques Polge, Chanel’s chief in-house perfumer.

If the name sounds familiar, Polge is credited with making almost all of the best Chanel colognes. Though Bleu de Chanel’s History is only a decade old, it has held its stake as the cornerstone of the Chanel house.

After a few years of success of Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette, Chanel released more Bleu de Chanel types. They include the EDP version in 2014 and the Parfum version in 2018.

My Experience with Bleu de Chanel EDP

Bleu de Chanel EDP was one of my first fragrances. It was at the beginning of my fragrance journey. The goal of buying this was to have a fragrance that could be worn for everything and anything.

It took me about ten wears to fall in love with it, the grapefruit and mint combination is something of its own. It took me a while to appreciate it, but now that I do, I am absolutely addicted.

Side note: The Parfum version may be better because it’s more well-rounded, but I don’t think you get as much of a return on investment unless you’re looking for a much darker fragrance.

In short, I will always have a bottle of Bleu de Chanel EDP in my collection.

FAQs

How Should I Buy Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum?

The best way to buy this fragrance, or any Chanel fragrance for that matter, is to purchase it from Chanel’s official website. This is where you’ll find authentic and the cheapest bottles.

Stores like Sephora and Macy’s are also good places, but it tends to be easier to buy from the Chanel Official Website and where I buy all my Chanel fragrances.

Bottle Sizes:

Bleu de Chanel EDP comes in 1.7oz, 3.4oz, and 5oz bottles. If you want the best cost for value, a 5oz bottle is best. However, if you want to save money as you build a collection. The smaller sizes are most beneficial.

Other Options:

Bleu de Chanel gift sets are another option. This comes with a 100mL bottle and stick deodorant.

The last few choices are an after-shave lotion and shower gel. Of course, all are Bleu de Chanel-inspired.

How Many Sprays Should I Apply?

3 – 5 Sprays.

If you know, you’ll be in close-quarter settings all day – lecture hall or cubicle. Then, three sprays are enough. However, apply more for running errands or in the cooler weather.

I will warn you that Bleu de Chanel EDP sprays have diminishing returns. It gets more intense around you but doesn’t necessarily project or last much longer. This is solely because of its lighter projection, to begin with.

What Age Range is Bleu de Chanel EDP for?

Bleu de Chanel for men has a wide age range. It will smell just as good on a man in his early 20s as on a man in his mid-30s.

If you’re older, I wouldn’t let this age range deter you from potentially buying BDC EDP.

On my YouTube channel, I posted something to this effect. A man mentioned that he was 52 and still felt like it was mature enough for him.

Is Bleu de Chanel for Men?

Yes, all Bleu de Chanel’s are men’s colognes. This is mainly from the deeper and darker base notes. If you’re a woman looking for Chanel, there are great fragrances like Chanel No. 5 and Coco Mademoiselle.

What Are Similar Fragrances to Bleu de Chanel EDP?

Armaf Club de Nuit Blue Iconic is the best dupe outside the Bleu de Chanel line.

The other concentrations of EDT and Parfum share the same DNA but differ slightly in how they present it. The EDT version has worse performance and has more aggressive spice tones. It is the most “immature” version of the line.

The Parfum version is deeper, darker, and smoother. In turn, it is the most mature of the line.

If you want to look at other concentrations besides the EDP, I recommend checking out the Parfum version before the EDT version.

Lastly, if you want a fragrance that provides a similar effect. I suggest Dior Sauvage EDP and YSL Y EDP. All aroma’s are vastly different. Yet, all are incredibly versatile and highly complimentable, known as blue fragrances.

Final Words

So, why Chanel Bleu de Chanel EDP? Of course, it’s easy to say that it’s easy to wear and smells good. But the best part is the perfect balance between too much and too little.

The first example would be concentrations unless you plan on owning the entire Bleu de Chanel line. It’s only reasonable to get the concentration that does everything well.

Another example is the balance between classy masculinity and playful seductiveness. The one downfall of the Dior Sauvage line is the abrasiveness of the fragrances. Always screaming for attention.

Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum is different. It’s quiet but confident.

In short, BDC EDP is worth it.

Bleu de Chanel EDP is an excellent cologne and a highly complimented one. Yet, don’t just limit yourself to Bleu de Chanel EDP. Check out the best Blue colognes for men.
