Mont Blanc Explorer
Upon the first spray is a blast of semi-sweet, fruity bergamot.
After about five minutes, the scent starts to smell more like Aventus. Bergamot fades, and a heavy dose of ambroxan and woody notes peak through.
Ambroxan adds a noticeably synthetic smell, but both notes emphasize a woody accord. Explorer is a straightforward scent. Any other notes in the fragrance only amplify the fruity opening or woody dry down.
Does Mont Blanc Explorer’s scent profile smell like Creed Aventus? It has the bare bones of it. Both have a fruity opening, but Aventus is known for its juicy, tangy pineapple opening.
As for the dry down, Explorer lacks the signature smoky birch. So, yes, similar scent DNA, but 9 times out 10, people can tell the difference.
This lasts eight to nine hours on the skin, with average projection. It pushes out two to three feet for the first two hours. After this period, it becomes a skin scent. This is all-season and occasion wearable.
Creed Aventus
The opening is led by an intense blast of pineapple and bergamot. The pineapple is at the forefront and exceptionally juicy, while bergamot gives the duo a zingy, attention-grabbing faucet. Both notes are authentic.
Nuances of musk, woods, and other nuances linger in the background, but let the citruses do the talking at first. The vibrance of the fruits fades into the dry-down.
A significantly heavier musk and smoky birch wood comes through. The heart of the wear is this fresh depth.
The base is all about fresh, smoky woods with a hint of masculine leather and warm amber. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.
Aventus lasts eight to nine hours on the skin, with above-average to moderate projection. It pushes out an arm’s length or more for the first three to four hours.
After this period, it recedes to a mild, two-foot ambiance for the rest of the wear. This is all-season and occasion wear. This is one of the best masculine and alluring fragrances for men.
Final Words
So, how do they compare? Oddly, they are not that similar.
Explorer is based on bright, citric bergamot the opening five minutes.
Aventus has bright and citric bergamot in the opening, but the overarching emphasis is juicy pineapple. The heart and early dry down of the fragrances are similar. They are wood and ambery.
However, the final dry downs are noticeably different. Explorer is mostly ambroxan-based, whereas Aventus is smoky birch with leather and ambery tinges. The quality is also noticeably different. Explorer has a synthetic nature.
Lastly, the performances differ. Aventus is long-lasting with moderate and consistent projection, whereas Explorer is a weak scent with average performance.
The only aspect that Explorer is best is the price. A bottle can be purchased for $30-$40 on discounters.
The final burning question is, which is better? Aventus. I know Aventus is expensive, and not all men can spend that much on a fragrance.
Is it a good investment? Yes, but that’s beside the point. If you want affordable Aventus clones, check out this list – Explorer is not #1.
After you try Mont Blanc Explorer and/or Creed Aventus, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
