Quick Summary

  • Based on floral and tobacco notes with a woody depth.
  • Average longevity and projection.
  • Can be worn for all seasons and nearly all occasions.
  • Has great cost for value.
  • An outstanding fragrance to add to a collection.

What Does Versace The Dreamer Smell Like?

The opening is all about a huge blast of aromatics. The first few minutes are overwhelmingly clean and sharp. At this point, there isn’t any specific note. Eventually, equal parts white florals and iris come through, lending an extremely intriguing aroma. It’s one of those scent’s you have to smell your wrist three times because it’s so interesting.

The first few minutes are certainly a whirlwind of smells. Ranging from herbal to powdery to even slightly spicy. Yet, it quickly calms down and settles into itself.

A dominant tobacco note leads after the first few minutes. It was always present but took a few minutes to really come through. Rather than your typical smooth tobacco, it’s a bit untamed, which makes it quite attention-grabbing.

Herbal florals mixed with a bitter tobacco note are the most prominent notes leading into the heart. As the wear continues, it becomes softer, easier to wear, and simply less decisive.

The tobacco note is still present and will be for the rest of the wear but not to the degree of the beginning. Into the dry down, the fragrance becomes simpler and smoother. The rest of the wear is a well-rounded dose of florals, light greens, tamed tobacco, and woody depth.

Performance

Versace The Dreamer lasts 6 hours on the skin with moderate to light projection. In terms of performance, it leans more towards gentlemen-like as it’s never too overpowering – whether that’s a pro or con is up to you.

It pushes out multiple feet the first few hours before receding closer to the skin, never becoming a skin scent.

So, when should you wear The Dreamer by Versace? Surprisingly, it’s all-season wear and nearly every occasion. I wouldn’t recommend wearing it on the hottest days of summer or the coldest days of winter. As it is too much or too little respectively.

As for occasions, it is all but close-quarter settings. The projection is light enough to allow for this. Yet, The Dreamer’s untamed tobacco can be quite decisive for some, thus off-putting.

Is Versace The Dreamer Worth it?

Short answer. Yes. Why? It’s affordable, smells great, and has decent performance. But there are always cons with the pros. The biggest con is the decisiveness. If you’re considering this for your FIRST fragrance, this might not be the best first choice. But this is an excellent buy if you’re adding another affordable option to your collection.

Besuited Aroma gives Versace The Dreamer a rating of 8.4 out of 10.

Presentation

The current 50mL bottle I am reviewing was purchased from FragranceX.com. The bottle is clear with a gold sprayer and no cap. Don’t worry about it going bad with no cap as long as you properly care for it.

The box is purple with silver stars scattered throughout. It will have the Versace name and concentration on the front. The batch code will be on the bottom of the box and bottle. Mine is 21682P.

This is an authentic bottle. Any other bottles that have a smaller spray hole or different color scheme are most likely fake. You only have to look for this when buying from sellers on sites like Amazon.

History

Versace is a designer fragrance house. They have created multiple other cologne lines. The most notable are Eros and Pour Homme.

The Dreamer Cologne was released in the early 2010s as a men’s fragrance. Technically, it is a flanker of the original, released in 1996. Since the reformulation, the original has been discontinued. However, the two are virtually the same scent, but the Original is slightly sweeter.

My Experience with Versace The Dreamer

All of the above information is my experience with Versace The Dreamer. However, I keep it as objective as possible. This way, you can objectively decide if this is a fragrance you want to purchase or if you’re comparing a few fragrances. Thus, this section is my subjective opinion.

Before I purchased The Dreamer, I didn’t have the highest hopes. How could a fragrance from a brand like Versace be so affordable? Well, I don’t know the answer. But I do know this is an amazing fragrance for an affordable price.

I personally love the tobacco note because it is so intriguing. Yet, this has made it decisive. Whenever I wear it around my honest friends, some of them enjoy the scent, and others don’t. This ratio is higher than most of fragrances.

In short, one of my personal favorites from Versace.

Final Words

Versace The Dreamer cologne has excellent value for what it’s purchased for. At the time of writing, a 3.4oz bottle can be bought for just under $40. It has all-season wearability and average performance.

One of my favorite reasons to wear The Dreamer is to spice up my collection. The unique tobacco note I’ve been harping on the entire article is alluring if you enjoy the smell.

This isn’t the best choice if it’s your very FIRST fragrance. Yet, for everyone else, it’s a great addition to your collection.

After you try Versace The Dreamer, let me know what you think in the comments.
