What does YSL Y EDP Smell Like?

Fresh, warm, and woody. The opening is a blend of ginger, apple, and bergamot. From opening to dry-down, the scent stays quite similar.

The opening is mainly fresh from the fruits and spicy from the ginger. It really pops and has a zingy-type feel. There are fruity nuances, but they are subtle.

You can’t specifically smell the apple and bergamot notes, but this is where the fresh, fruity nature comes from.

The spice from the ginger does help the scent pop, but much of this is from the help of aromatics. They lead into the heart and are overwhelmingly dominant. They amplify freshness with an extremely invigorating nature.

For a while after, the scent stays consistent. This part of the fragrance is much of why Y EDP is so loved.

The bulk of the base is amber wood and tonka bean. Both fuse to create a slight sweetness, though the amber wood really shines. It is velvety and warm while giving a slight ambroxan/woodsy feel.

As the dry-down progresses, it loses its sweetness and becomes more woodsy.

On top of the outstanding smell is YSL Y EDP’s fantastic performance. On the skin, it lasts 8 – 10 hours with above-average and consistent projection.

In the first few hours, it pushes out 5 – 6 feet before receding. The rest of the wear creates a large ambiance around you.

Y EDP is one of those fragrances that the more you apply, the heavier it projects. Any more than five sprays and you’d fill a room.

As for wearability, it’s all seasons and occasions, like a true blue fragrance. There isn’t even an event or season that it struggles in!

Lastly, more of a public opinion point of view, uniqueness, and likability. The uniqueness to you is below average; it’s a very popular fragrance, so it won’t make you stand out.

As for the scent, it’s different than most blue fragrances because it doesn’t have ambroxan, yet still, the DNA is nothing ground-breaking.

Speaking of blue fragrances, this is not only the best one but also the most complimented. And for this, it was a no-brainer to give Y EDP a ten out of 10 in the likability section.

My Experience with YSL Y EDP

All of the above information is my experience with YSL Y EDP. However, I keep it as objective as possible. This way, you can objectively decide if this is a fragrance you want to purchase or if you’re comparing a few fragrances. Thus, this section is my subjective opinion.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that Y EDP is one of my favorite fragrances overall. This is because of its perfect balance between laid-back and sophisticated.

The slight sweetness of the opening is very refreshing, and the woodiness of the base is quality.

This translates to a very wearable scent that can be applied without thought.

Dior Sauvage is loud and bold, shouting for attention. Bleu de Chanel is subtle and seductive, only attracting already attracted individuals. Y EDP is the best in between shouting confidence but not desperation.

There are times when wearability works against it. There is a degree of blandness in the middle as the refreshing opening transitions to the warm and woody base.

I recommend Y EDP and will ALWAYS have a bottle in my collection.
