This review will compare YSL Y EDP, and Y Le Parfum. I will describe each’s smell and performance. Later, I will compare and contrast and let you know which is best for you.

YSL Y EDP
Fresh, warm, and woody. The opening is a blend of ginger, apple, and bergamot. From opening to dry-down, the scent stays quite similar.
The opening is mainly fresh from the fruits and spicy from the ginger. It really pops and has a zingy-type feel. There are fruity nuances, but they are subtle. You can’t specifically smell the apple and bergamot notes, but this is where the fresh, fruity nature comes from.
The spice from the ginger does help the scent pop, but much of this is from the help of aromatics. They lead into the heart and are overwhelmingly dominant. They amplify freshness with an extremely invigorating nature. For a while after, the scent stays consistent. This part of the fragrance is why Y EDP is so loved.
The bulk of the base is amber wood and tonka bean. Both fuse to create a slight sweetness, though the amber wood really shines. It is velvety and warm while giving a slight ambroxan/woodsy feel. As the dry-down progresses, it loses its sweetness and becomes more woodsy.
The longevity is in the eight to ten-hour range. The projection is above average for the first two to three hours. It pushes out five to six feet. After this period, it recedes to a mild ambiance for the rest of the wear. As for seasons and occasions, it is all.
YSL Y Le Parfum
The opening is fresh and spicy, all about the zingy ginger note. It is paired with a bright and subtly sweet apple note. In the background are aldehydic notes; they are slightly soapy and metallic. In Y EDP, you’ll smell a heavier aromatic accord as the backbone.
The mid picks up an aromatic nature but not to the degree of Y EDP. It is mostly slightly green and herbaceous sage paired with lavender florals. All sit atop the soapy aldehydes. The heart has the same general idea as Y EDP but uses a more herbaceous sage than a woody aromatic juniper berry.
The bright citruses and spices of the fragrance recede in the base. This makes room for nutty tonka bean sweetness and a warm, woody cedar. The rest of the wear is fresh wood. Y EDP has a similar dry down but with a tinge of warm amber in combination with the wood.
The longevity is in the seven-hour range. It pushes out well for the first two hours, then recedes to a mild ambiance. As for seasons and occasions, this is all. The performance is similar to Y EDP. It loses an hour of longevity and big projection. However, it is a slightly denser scent bubble.
Final Words
These are very similar fragrances, to say the least. In terms of general scent development and performance, they are nearly identical. However, they have their respective tweaks (compared in Le Parfum).
The final burning question is, which is best? Y EDP. It has a woodier nature and is frankly more likable. I know I shouldn’t wear fragrances for attention, but what else do you wear a blue fragrance for?
I recommend Le Parfum if you want a more mature and intimate fragrance. Other than this, Y EDP all the way.
