How Does Dior Describe it?

Here is the product description “Inspiration for the creation of Sauvage Eau de Parfum was taken from the desert in the magical hour of twilight: mixed with the coolness of the night, the burning desert air exudes profound scents.

Sauvage Eau de Parfum is thus the olfactory interpretation of a moment tinted with a thick blue that unleashes the wildest instincts. In the hour when the wolves come out, and the sky is set ablaze, a new magic unfolds.

Sauvage Eau de Parfum teams the freshness of a juicy, spicy Calabrian bergamot note with the sensuality of a mysterious and enveloping Papua New Guinean vanilla extract accord to unfurl a powerful and noble trail.

The 3.4 oz bottle of Sauvage Eau de Parfum is now refillable with the Sauvage Eau de Parfum refill. This innovative system is part of Dior’s sustainable development initiative, which aims to improve the House of Dior’s impact on the climate, resources, and waste.”

What Does Dior Sauvage EDP Smell Like?

This is a masculine, fresh, clean, and warm fragrance.

The first spray is a whirlwind of smells. It is a blast of citrus from bergamot. This is an intense, fresh smell, similar to lemon, but with more “flavor” and not as bitter.

In the background is an intense ambroxan backbone. Ambroxan is a man-made molecule that smells extremely warm, rich, and attractive.

Any time it’s in a fragrance, the scent gets 5x times more compliments. As Sauvage continues, there is a breezy, clean lavender, almost like an air refresher in the best way possible.

In the end, it is all about ambroxan with masculine musk. The musk is a man-made molecule that smells like clean sheets with more “flavor”.

Dior Sauvage Performance

How Long Does Dior Sauvage EDP Last?

Sauvage EDP is a great performer, but I don’t consider it “beast mode.” Most of the time, it lasts nine to ten hours on the skin (if you spray on clothes, it lasts longer.)

On the coldest days, it will start to struggle. On warm days, its scent bubble starts to fill a room. The scent bubble usually pushes out five to six feet and leaves a long trail as you walk.

Toward the end of the wear, the strength weakens. Yet, it is never so light that someone has to hug you to smell it.

When Should I Wear Dior Sauvage EDP?

This is a super easy fragrance to wear for any season or occasion. During these times, it will get great performance.

If you need or only want one fragrance, this would be a great choice because it will tick all your boxes.

Some guys complain that it’s too much. But that’s if you wear it in 90-degree weather with too many sprays.

Why Is Dior Sauvage EDP So Popular?

It gets compliments, is a great performer, and is extremely versatile. From personal experience, this was the scent I considered as my first because Sauvage is great at all these traits.

However, I didn’t buy it because I thought every guy wore it. And this is somewhat true. Yet, I’m on a college campus every day, and I’ve only ever smelt it on another guy three or four times.

I smell Versace Eros about three times more.

This definitely won’t be unique to you. Still, everyone who says they smell it on every guy they pass is being dramatic. 70% of men don’t even wear fragrances every day…

Is Dior Sauvage EDP Worth It?

Yes. Many guys fear buying it because they don’t want to smell like all other guys or their girl’s ex-boyfriend. Besides this factor, there is nothing wrong with this scent; it is great at everything.

I own thousands of dollars of fragrances and reach for this more often than 70% of my collection.

On Dior’s official website, a 100mL bottle can be purchased for $145. This is similar to other top-line fragrances (Bleu de Chanel EDP, YSL Y EDP, etc…).

If that price tag is intimidating, think of it as an investment. Would you pay $0.40 a day for five times more confidence?

Let alone the performance, quality, and versatility are all fantastic. If we’re being honest, this became popular for a reason.

Don’t just trust me; what do the masses think? This information is pulled from fragrantica.com. Providing a general estimate of what others think.

At the time of writing (January 2024), Sauvage EDP has 7,741 votes with a rating of 4.18 stars out of 5. Based on the cost-for-value metric, it is rated as neutral.

Here are the top three pros and cons:

PROS

  • Potent and strong performance
  • Attractive and pleasing to others

All three of the cons were poorly rated. They had more downvotes than upvotes.

Presentation

The 60mL bottle I am reviewing was bought from Dior’s official website.

The bottle is dark blue and transparent with the logo on the front. The cap is metal and magnetic and has the Dior logo on the top. You won’t have to worry about spilling.

The box is black with the name and concentration on the front. The batch code will be on the bottom of both the box and bottle. Mine is 3A02.

Dior Sauvage History

Dior Sauvage EDT was released as a Christian Dior men’s cologne in 2015. It soon became one of the most popular colognes, giving Bleu de Chanel a run for its money.

Well, why did it become so popular? The smell and performance are outstanding. It also helped to have a commercial of Johnny Depp wearing Dior Sauvage.

After a few years of success, Dior decided to expand the line. They released Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum in 2018. Released Parfum in 2019, released Very Cool Spray in 2017, and released Sauvage Elixir in 2021.

So, what’s the history behind why Dior Sauvage is so expensive?

Dior is a designer brand with success on both the men’s and women’s side of fragrances. Dior also uses the highest quality ingredients in all their perfumes.

My Experience With Dior Sauvage EDP

Dior Sauvage EDP was one of my first fragrances. I wanted to build a collection of easy-to-wear and quality fragrances. At first, I wanted to hate it because it is who it is.

But by the second wear, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Again I’ll sound like a broken record, but it is popular for a reason.

I’ve gotten the spectacular longevity and projection highlighted above every time I’ve worn it. It can undoubtedly get overpowering if applied too heavily.

At that point, you’re introducing yourself before you’re seen.

The one thing that I wish was different was a little bit longer opening and a more distinct base. I don’t want a super spicy note that “punches you in the face” like the EDT version.

But it’d be nice if the EDP version was drawn out more before being taken over by the warm ambroxan.

As for a more distinct base, I’d love a more prominent musk to come through and work in equal parts with the ambroxan.

These are minor changes and barely affect my opinion of the fragrance. There’s no denying that this outperforms almost every other fragrance in terms of cost for value.

Lastly, I can’t talk about Sauvage without mentioning compliments. It’s garnered some, and I’ve asked women if they find it attractive. Time after time, they always prefer it over many other blue fragrances.

*Side Note: Compliments are subjective factors and depend on many circumstances. So, you shouldn’t worry about not getting any attention, whether it’s vocalized or not.

FAQs

Where Should I Buy Dior Sauvage EDP?

Bottle Sizes:

Dior Sauvage EDP comes in 1.0oz, 2.0oz, 3.4oz, and 6.8oz bottles. The 200mL bottle is the most expensive but by far has the best cost for value. If you’re starting a collection and want to save some money.

The smaller 60mL and 100mL bottles will do. A 100mL bottle will still give you about a year of everyday wear.

The only reason I don’t recommend the 30mL bottle is that it’s a different bottle style and extremely expensive for the amount you get. Especially if you’re going to wear it every day.

How Many Sprays Should I Apply?

3 – 4 Sprays.

Dior Sauvage EDP is a great projector. Thus, you want to lessen the sprays than a full routine. You’ll only want three sprays in close-quarter settings – cubicle or lecture hall.

Even in intimate situations, you might want to dial it back to two sprays.

Four sprays are fine if you know you’ll be out and about.

Who Wears Dior Sauvage?

Sauvage is exclusively a men’s cologne. From the start, it has a masculine draw, which is part of the reason it is so popular. Now age, it is a more youthful scent. Anyone from early 20s to 30s and 40s could pull this off.

If you’re older than this, of course, try it out. But I’d recommend getting a sample first.

Can You Wear Dior Sauvage to Work?

Yes. Sauvage can be worn for anything and everything. In the office, just tone down the sprays, and you’ll be good to go.

What Are Dior Sauvage Dupes?

Outside of the Sauvage line. Prada Luna Rossa Carbon provides a similar aroma.

The EDT and Parfum versions of Dior Sauvage are the most similar fragrances. They contain the same DNA but present it in a slightly different way.

There is also an Elixir version that is the new kid on the block. It is similar but not to the degree of the aforementioned.

The EDT version is louder and more “immature.” The initial pink pepper note, in the beginning, is much harsher.

The Parfum version is the most mature of these three. It comes off as the most well-rounded and put-together. Mainly because it places a more significant emphasis on a diverse base.

If you find the EDP version too much, the Parfum version is an excellent next step.

Lastly, Bleu de Chanel EDP and YSL Y EDP are the best Sauvage alternatives. They don’t have a similar DNA but do have a similar effect. The trio of Dior Sauvage, Bleu de Chanel, and YSL Y EDP are extremely easy to wear, smell outstanding, and attract attention.

Final Words

Is the hype real? Yes. Dior Sauvage is the best version of the line. This is solely because it’s the perfect balance between too much and too little. Yet, still retaining the Sauvage DNA we all love.

No matter who you are, Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum is always a good choice for any man.
