How Does Prada Describe it?

Here is the product description, “A parfum of doubles, of layers, of male and female with a unique result: L’Homme Prada, a mix of classic ingredients mixed in a contemporary accent. Neroli, geranium, and Patchuli are mixed with Amber and Iris, a sensual fragrance with a sophisticated allure.”

Scent Profile (Overview)

Prada L’Homme starts fresh and transitions to wearable and masculine florals before ending with warm woods, which are the best part of the wear.

What Does Prada L’Homme Smell Like?

It’s known for its powdery iris note, which is not as bad or feminine as you may think. The first spray is a citric blast of orange that grabs your attention.

The first 30 seconds almost feel like nothing is going on. After this is the semi-sweetness of a candied violet, followed by a powdery iris. When I spray too heavily, I can often taste the powder in my mouth.

These floral notes explode off the skin for the first 20 minutes before they start to die down.

The next five hours are a long haul of wearable and classy florals. Eventually, it seems like Prada L’Homme fades away within a few hours, but give it some time.

At seven hours, it abruptly switches to warm cedar and, my favorite part of the fragrance. Even if you don’t enjoy the beginning, the ending is worth the stay.

Oddly enough, when you sweat, the warm cedar mixes with your sweat and makes it smell great! This is all you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

Performance

So, now you know the most important part of the fragrance. Let’s talk about the second. This was the first real fragrance in my collection. So, I have a significant amount of experience with Prada L’Homme.

Is Prada L’Homme Long Lasting?

A solid 8 -10 hours. Most of the time, I’ll be showering the next morning, and Prada L’Homme has “tattooed” itself on my skin.

Does Prada L’Homme Have Good Projection?

The first two hours, it pushes out well 2-3 feet. If I spray it on too heavily and walk around outside, I can taste the powderiness in my mouth. That shouldn’t scare you as it doesn’t happen all the time.

After this period, it recedes closer to the skin. It never becomes a skin scent but only projects intimately – less than a foot.

One of my favorite things about Prada L’Homme is that it mixes with your sweat. As your skin heats up, it smells like L’homme and projects slightly better. Definitely an odd attribute but a unique one.

When Should You Wear Prada L’Homme?

This is a very versatile fragrance that can be used for all seasons and occasions.

I wear this for all occasions, and it works great for everything and anything. If I defined it as a person, it would be a man in a navy blue suit. Whether in the office or on a formal occasion, that’s the vibe this resembles.

As for seasons, it struggles a bit in the depths of winter and gets heavy in the high heat of summer. I live in a climate with 4 seasons, and I can comfortably wear this 9 – 10 months of the year.

Is Prada L’Homme a Unique Fragrance?

Prada L’Homme has above-average uniqueness. It is not so unique that you’ll think it’s a 1:1. However, it is still different enough from many other fragrances that you’ll stand out.

As for unique to you, it is a popular fragrance but probably not one you’ll smell others wearing.

Does Prada L’Homme Get Compliments?

Extremely likable. This is a fragrance that everyone enjoys smelling rather than one that screams for attention. Not to say that you won’t get complimented wearing this.

But, if that’s your sole objective, there are better choices.

Besuited Aroma gives Prada L’Homme a rating of 8.7 out of 10.

What Makes Prada L’Homme EDT Special (Or Not?)

If you want a standout scent, this is an easy one to check off that box. It’s special because it’s so wearable and versatile but still stands out (this is rare.)

There are comparable fragrances; of course, its flanker Prada L’Homme L’Eau is a much more powdery and clean scent but has the same idea as the EDT version.

If you like the idea of this scent but want something that leans more, a white T-shirt and grey sweatpants, this is by far the better choice for you.

Another comparable one is Givenchy Gentleman EDT Intense. This is another fragrance that is heavy on the powdery Iris note. But again, it is masculine and classy. It makes you stand out in the best way possible.

Gentleman EDT Intense heads in a greener direction (like a clean forest) but has the same idea as Prada L’Homme.

As far as who’s better, that’s a tough one and one for you to decide. But Gentleman EDT Intense has gotten me more verbal compliments.

How Do People Rate Prada L’Homme?

Don’t just trust me; what do the masses think? This information is pulled from fragrantica.com. Providing a general estimate of what others think.

At the time of writing, L’Homme has 7,863 votes with a rating of 4.40 stars out of 5. Based on the cost-for-value metric, this is rated as neutral to good value.

Here are the top three pros and cons:

PROS

  • Safe and comfortable scent
  • Strong iris note in masculine fragrance
  • Good for those who like flowery scents

CONS

  • It may not appeal to those who dislike floral scents
  • May lack depth or uniqueness overtime
  • It may be too sweet or cloying for some

I agree with all the pros. However, to add context to the cons. The last two were not highly rated, nor do I agree with them.

Presentation

Let’s talk about what a real bottle should look like when you order it. The bottle I am currently using for this review was bought from Prada.com. A picture of a 100mL bottle with the box is shown below.

The bottle is clear with a black textured plastic grip. The cap is silver plastic that clips into place. You won’t have to worry about spilling as it is quite secure. The Prada brand title protrudes from the front, and the batch code is on the bottom of the bottle with a sticker.

The box is quite large. However, black with the same textured grip in the middle. The batch code and ingredients can be found at the bottom of the box.

The sprayer is decent. It lets out a big and wide blast but doesn’t shoot very far. The one thing I don’t like about the sprayer is that the nozzle spins easily. So, make sure not to spray yourself in the face when you’re trying to get it on your neck.

How Has Prada L’Homme Changed?

I confirm that Prada L’Homme has not been discontinued, and I will update you if anything changes.

I can’t tell you if Prada L’Homme has changed over the years. I don’t have the money nor am Icrazy enough to buy a new bottle each year.

But I can confidently tell you that most fragrances don’t change much. Of course, there will be differences year to year based on the crops and quality of oils extracted, but it’s not because there’s been a reformulation.

Since the original was released in 2014. The most notable flankers are Prada L’Homme L’Eau and Prada L’Homme Intense.

L’Eau reminds me of wearing a white T-shirt and Grey Sweatpants, while L’Homme Intense is a darker and slightly better-lasting version.

my Experience with Prada L’Homme

Prada L’Homme was my first real fragrance and the one that got me into fragrance collecting.

Many guys are turned off by the floral-based aroma. I can’t lie. It was a little questionable to me at first, too. And now that I’ve worn it countless times, it’s never come off as feminine to me.

These florals are amazing, but the warm cedar base is where it’s at for me.

The only downfall is the projection. In the middle of the wear (hours 3 – 6), when florals transition to the woody base. The projection is in and out, sometimes, I can smell it, and other times I can’t.

Then hour-seven rolls around, and it’s all about the warm cedar.

History

Prada L’Homme was released in 2016 as the first from the line. It was created by Daniela Andrier.

She has made nearly all the perfumes in the Prada line on both the men’s and women’s sides. Another notable cologne she created was Bottega Veneta Pour Homme. This was recently featured in my weekly Sunday newsletter.

Over the years, L’Homme has inspired a few other flankers. The most notable is L’Homme Intense and L’Homme L’Eau. Both of these are great colognes if you get the chance to smell them.

I particularly enjoy L’Homme L’Eau as a summer scent.

FAQs

Where Should I Buy Prada L’Homme?

Bottle Sizes: 50mL and 100mL

Do you not want to drop $105 on a cologne you’ve never smelt before? I don’t blame you. Check out Besuited Aroma’s decants. They are the cheapest and easiest way to experience new fragrances.

How Many Sprays Should I Apply?

90% of the time, 3 sprays are all you need. When you spray heavier, it gets more intense but doesn’t project any further. If it is really cold out, 5 sprays are ideal. If it’s really hot out, 2 sprays.

Is Prada L’Homme Casual?

Yes, it’s a great cologne for all occasions. It bests fits casual situations and office wear. However, it is still classy enough for formal occasions or dates.

Prada L’Homme Dupes?

The most similar outside of the L’Homme line is Dior Homme Eau for Men.

Is Prada L’Homme EDT Worth It?

Let’s break this down, the smell is the most important part of any fragrance. The scent is high-quality, and there is no doubt about that. However, it’s understandable to be uncertain about a masculine, powdery floral fragrance.

I know I was.

Either way, I give the smell an “A-“

Performance and versatility are important but secondary. Prada L’Homme almost knocks the ball out of the park in both cases. Yet, the performance could be better.

Performance: “B+”
Versatility: “A-“

Next is wearability; though it seems the same as versatility, it is not. Wearability is how easy it is to spray on and go and not offend anyone.

Prada L’Homme EDT scores an “A+” in this category.

The last couple of things to consider are price and quality, and this scores an “A+ in both categories.”

Do I Recommend Prada L’Homme EDT?

Yes.
