What Does YSL L’Homme EDT Smell Like?
The opening starts with equal parts bergamot, lemon, and ginger. The overarching idea of the first spray is invigorating and fresh. Other spice notes are lingering in the background but nothing identifiable.
The citruses are tangy and refreshing and dominate the scent in the heart. The ginger, on the other hand, is never abrasive and instead has a unique twist that breaks up the monotony of the citruses.
The citruses and spices recede 10-15 minutes into the wear, and violet leaf starts to take over. It has a very fresh and ozonic smell rather than the gasoline accord found in Dior Fahrenheit.
There is a floral nature, but it is mainly about emphasizing the freshness of the scent.
Into the dry down, the scent sweetens with a creamy and woody addition of tonka bean. The rest of the wear is woody, floral, and spicy.
This is a simple scent but not linear. Only warm spices have lasted the entire wear.

Performance
L’Homme EDT is the perfect gentleman’s fragrance. It lasts six to seven hours on the skin.
The projection is light to moderate but consistent. It pushes out one to two feet for most of the wear. It recedes but never becomes a skin scent. This performance is with five sprays.
This is great in the spring, summer, and fall. I’ve tried wearing it in the colder temperatures of the winter, but it didn’t last as long and seemed to be wasting money for poor performance.
If you live in a four-season climate, you’ll get eight to nine months of wear out of this.
As for occasions, it is all. This is one of the reasons why it’s such an excellent gentleman’s fragrance. The aroma is sophisticated for dates and formal occasions but subtle and pleasant enough for office wear.
Lastly, mass appeal and likability are above-average. This isn’t an attention magnet like a blue fragrance, but it’s super mass-appealing. There aren’t any decisive notes in this scent. It is just an alluring ginger note with other fresh and woody accents.

Here are the top three pros and cons:
Pros
- Safe fragrance for the office, date, or any occasion.
- Fresh, comfortable, and versatile scent for any occasion.
- Well-composed and classy juice with a creamy, fresh, and masculine smell.
Cons
- Poor performance with low projection and longevity.
- Performance is near pathetic and doesn’t project at all.
- Faint remnant of citrus after an hour of application.
*Note: The last two cons have more downvotes than upvotes.
YSL L’Homme Clones
The most similar fragrance is a flanker. YSL L’Homme Le Parfum shares the same DNA but has a heavier ozonic and woody accord. It has slightly better versatility. Yet, it’s not worth it compared to the original reviewed today.
Outside of the line, Riflesso Trussardi is the best dupe. The biggest difference is that Trussardi has a leathery tinge and a subtle fruity accent. They both have similar versatility and performances.
But Trussardi is more cold-weather-focused than warm-weather-focused.
Final Words
YSL L’Homme is worth it. The fragrances aren’t similar smelling, but this is like Prada L’Homme. An easy-to-wear fragrance that impresses everyone without overwhelming them.
On top of this, it is quality and moderately affordable. Yes, the longevity is just average, but it’s worth it for the fragrance you receive.
L’Homme EDT is an excellent cologne and a highly complimented one. Yet, don’t just limit yourself to L’Homme EDT. Check out the best YSL colognes. All are primed to grab positive attention; you might just find your signature scent.
