I’ll get to the point, “What does Dolce and Gabbana The One EDP smell like? It is warm, sweet, and sexy. It is a linear scent, only changing in the intensities of the accords. 

The opening is a fleeting citrus hit but is quickly overpowered by a tidal wave of warm spices. For the first two hours, spices dominate. Nuances of amber and tobacco are peaking in from the base but aren’t prevalent.

After two hours, the dry-down starts and is the best part of the fragrance. At this point, you’ll understand why it’s a sexy men’s cologne.

The spices tone down, and amber and tobacco are present in equal parts. There is some sweetness, but it is primarily warm and inviting. This trio dominates the rest of the wear and is the reason DG The One EDP is so popular. 

If you think this is a simple scent, you’d be right. The most prominent notes are ginger, amber, and tobacco. These are virtually the only notes that can be smelt the entire wear.

Dolce and Gabbana The One EDP’s longevity is the most common complaint. The One Eau de Parfum lasts 6-7 hours on my skin. Yes, it is not an entire workday, but it is long enough for a date night.

The projection and sillage could be better. If you don’t have enough sprays on, the scent is barely detectable, even in the first few hours. It projects no further than 1 foot for the entire wear.

Though when you start moving around, it will leave a decent scent trail, nothing to go crazy over.

Some may see the projection as a downfall. It works perfectly with its intimate projection when considering its date night purpose. The projection is weak, but it never becomes a skin scent.

When Should You Wear Dolce and Gabbana The One EDP?

The versatility is above average. It can be worn for all occasions but is best suited for dates. The only time that I recommend it shouldn’t be worn is in the summer.

It is a heavy, warm fragrance that becomes too overpowering in the heat.

The uniqueness is average; there are a lot of masculine and tobacco scents on the market. The scent is well-made, but The One profile has no “wow” note.

The current bottle I am reviewing was bought from fragrancenet.com. It is a 100mL bottle and, if I remember correctly, costs about $53. The bottle is a hefty glass bottle with black on the bottom that tapers to a clear top, where you can see the amber color juice.

The cap is oblong and also heavy. It easily twists and is not the most secure, so don’t pick this up by its cap. The box is solid black with silver writing. The ingredients are on the back of the box.

The batch code will be on the bottom of both the bottle and box. Mine is 2025JM.

D&G The EDP was released in 2015 and is the flanker to the original Dolce and Gabbana One. There are numerous other Dolce and Gabbana The One flankers, but the EDP version is better.

My Experience With Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP

All of the above information is my experience with Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP.

However, I keep it as objective as possible. This way, you can objectively decide if this is a fragrance you want to purchase or if you’re comparing a few fragrances. Thus, this section is my subjective opinion.

Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP was one of my first fragrances for situations to impress.

I love the opening with the zesty citrus and ginger combination. There’s something about ginger that is attention-grabbing. However, the dry down of tobacco is only some of what I thought it would be.

The tobacco is subtle and not as seductive or sexy as expected. Though it is very masculine.

This is a good fragrance, and I’ll always have a bottle in my collection, but… The enormous amount of hype it gets is overkill. It’s more understandable because of the price point. Yet, still.

Lastly, the performance is a big shame. Unless I really coat myself, the longevity is horrid. I usually get 6 hours, but the last few hours are faint.
